Broken winter range gate

Looks like it would have been easier to drive around it, then drive through it.

LAST EDITED ON May-06-06 AT 05:00PM (MST)[p]Is it just me or is the closure in that area a joke? I mean the gas guys are driving the road daily. Who has the keys to the gate? Probably some gas forman who is out shed hunting. That whole area used to be closed from Jan 1 - May 1. Now it is closed from Nov 15 - May 15. I don't agree with the gate torn down, but it wasn't a shed hunter who did it. My money would be on an oil worker who didn't want to travle the detour of 20 miles to get to town.

Also, if from where you took that picture, you are on closed winter range. hahaha

Was not a worker in the gas field. Pix is near Pinedale on some new gates that were put in to keep un-authorized access out, un-authorized meaning folks who do not have BLM permission to be up there. How do I know this?? I was the biologist who worked with the companies to get these put in last year. There is a long story behind the closures, and I can tell it later. This gate was put in by industry, and area was actively watched by industry for illegal entry. They would not have done this to one of their own gates. From what I can gather from talking with the folks who are there now, the gate was functional until dark on April 29. There were numerous bone hunters driving all over this area when I took the photo.

The photo was taken on May 1, the first day the closures were lifted, so no, I was not on a closed winter range. Go laugh at yourself.

wlbiol- You need to get your facts straight. The signs on the gates say that the range is closed from Nov 15 - May 15. If you really were "the biologist who worked with the companies to get these put in last year" then you didn't have much pull with the guys who made and installed the signs.

Of course no oil field worker would ever do something illegal or wrong. They never poach or go shed hunting after work on the closed areas. hahaha Just had to laugh at you and your "employers" who have decimated that winter range and feel that you can make up for it by closing some of the area for a longer period of time. Oh yeah, close those areas until you need to drill some more.

And yes it was closed----- Until May 15th or so said the signs.
