Broke Rack and Broke Points

How much of this kinda stuff do you guys find? Even broken stuff tells a story... the broken fork, the bull had raked his antlers against a tree, same with the tip. The broke-antler I suspect was from fighting, as well as the dagger-shaped point...it was next to a wallow. A friend of mine showed me a rack of 4th-6th point, and he said from the torn-up brush and knocked-down tree, it was obvious there had been a heckuva fight!

I have found all kinds of broken stuff over the years, including a few from critters I think got struck by lightning!

I almost never find broken stuff. I've found two broken off points in 15 years. I've found only 2 antlers with broken points this year, the rest have been perfect. Last year I found 3 (of the 95 that I found) with broken points. Maybe better calcium availability? Different genetics? (do the broken antlers have a thin outer shell?) Fewer animals to fight with? (we have low bull/cow and buck/doe ratios in my area, that would probably equal less fighting)

At least that bull didn't break off his sword tine, that's a beauty!

That crazy how alot of critters break their antlers. The area where i find my whitetail sheds has alot of bucks in the 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 age so there is plenty of sparring which in return gives me about 20 percent of the horns I find with broken tines. My pup Goose found a Burr of a mule deer this year that is less than 4 inches long that came off of a fully mature buck. I'll take a pic and post here this weekend. Congrats on the finds by the way. Find the horn Goose!
