Im pretty new to archery.Any help would be appreciated. I shoot a fred bear element set at about 67 lbs. I have a 29" draw and am shooting goldtip arrows with 100 grain field tips on them. The field tips shoot great and flat out to 70 yards. I put the muzzy mx-4 100 grain broadheads and my arrows lurch down and to the right, right after release, and are barely even hitting the target at 20 yards! is there anything i can do to get the broadheads to fly like the fieldpoints? ive tried nocking my arrow both ways out of my whisker biscuit.

Do you have any clearance problems that may be happening with broadheads? Sometimes the broadheads touch the riser when pulled back, with a very short arrow. Have you tried spinning the arrow with the broadhead attached? Does it wobble, or look like the broadhead tip moves at all when placed on a flat surface? Also, try aligning atleast two of the blades to the vanes. When you shoot field tips is there any fishtailing at all? Have somebody stand behind you shooting to make sure. You may have to paper tune your bow.

You have to have some type of serious equipment problem going on. I would go with there is broadhead contact, or it is so out of line as to be impossible to scew in. I have never heard of anything so extreme with any broadhead. Check your set up and make sure there is no contact. The broadhead would have to be visibly messed up if no contact. Sorry can't help more.

I shoot muzzy mx-4's and find them to be an improvement from the old muzzyies. Those other guys are right on. Make sure your arrow is pleny long enough. Its better to have an arrow to long than to short in my opinion.
How do you like your bear bow? I looked @ one the other day. They look like a nice bow.

the back of my broadhead is nowhere near my riser, still has a good inch and a half clearance up and out. Muzzy400, this is my first bow but i could not be more thoroughly impressed with the element, it is one of the lower end ones, behind the instinct, code, and truth, but i like it so much i got one for my dad. it is fast, quiet, and shoots really flat and accurate. Where are you settin up your archery shop in AZ. Im in flagstaff.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-07 AT 09:48AM (MST)[p]First thing, are you sure you have the properly spined arrows? Consult your arrow manufacturer's spine chart to make sure you have the right arrow given your arrow length, bow poundage, and point weight. Then make sure that everything on your bow, especially the rest and sight, is screwed down nice and tight. Then make sure you have no clearance issues with the arrow shaft, point and fletching hitting anything on the bow as it is released. Then make sure your arrows spin true with no funky wobble. You might have an insert that is not guled in square with the arrow shaft. Then I would go back to the shop and shoot some field tipped arrows through paper. This will help you figure out if the arrow is launching off the string and through the rest in a perfectly straight line. Once you get that verified and make rest adjustments as necessary, then start shooting broadheads. I would look up the Easton Arrow Tuning Guide online, download it and print a copy. This will help you make the final rest adjustments to get your broadheads grouping with your field tips.

Follow these steps and you should be good to go. Just make small adjustments at a time.

What you're describing can be caused by several different factors....some of which have already been explained. However, without looking at the bow and checking some things personally, it would be very difficult for anyone to render an opinion based solely on a written description.

My suggestion would be to take it to reputable pro-shop in your area and have them check things out. They should be able to paper-tune and confirm proper spines, lengths, and weights of everything involved. Good luck.

Do as BOHNTR said and take it to a good pro shop. I will say that I used to shoot a WB and changed to a drop away rest and it made a world of difference when shooting past 25 yards with a fine tuned bow. Im not knocking the WB, it's just that for consistancy the drop away was a major improvement. good luck.

Have your local pro shop center tune your bow then take the time to paper tune.
After the center tuning you should be leaving bullet holes in the paper.
