have the deer herds moved in yet? just wondering if i should make the trip

I am possibly going down there this coming weekend with my brother. Some other committments kept me from bowhunting 39 this year so I thought I'd check out Unit 55. Never hunted it before. I studied some maps and I thought we'd check out the south end of the Jim Sage Mtns or the area north of City of Rocks and south side of Cache Peak. Not real sure where to go but we'll give this a try.

Well one thing is for sure,,The hunters have moved in..
Herds of them everywhere,,Worse than last year and the year before.. The past few years have really gotten crowded there.
Seems like every deer has several different parties chasing em..

i headed up there over the thanksgiving weekend stayed in Albion, see 8 bucks the biggest being a heavy wide 2 point, just couldn't close the distance but there seems to be a lot more hunters this years especially in castle rock, just watch out for the park manager he's a dandy he told me i was braking the law looking at deer through my bino six hundred yards from the road i don't know what kind of bow he thought i was shootin,

Just got back, great hunt.
Only downfall was the strong constantly changing winds and crunchy snow up top made stalking close enough for a shot impossible. Saw a lot more deer and large bucks than I expected to find.
Anyone get a chance to shot one?
One of the most dusty camping conditions I have ever had due to the wind. Everything in my tent had a thick layer of dust. Seemed like we ate dust for 7 days. Going to take me a week or so to clean all my gear.
Always better than working.

we had fun dealing with the wind during rifle season. so, it gets that crowded during the archery hunt? i was thinking about it for next year. i wonder if any of the landowners allow access? doubt it, but you never know until you ask.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-09-09 AT 07:53AM (MST)[p]Saw one little 4x4 killed on Saturday. This was our worst weekend by far between the storm on Saturday and the cold on Sunday the deer were not moving much only saw 9 bucks all weekend. The biggest being about a 24" 4x4 and the rest small
3x3 and 2x2 We were hoping to find some of the deer had had found the previous weekend maybe next weekend.
