Any suggestions on a good youth bow. He is going to be 15 and wants to start archery hunting. I would like to get him a bow that would last for a few years. Right now I'm sure he could handle 50lbs with a good let off. Any ideas, anyone have one they want to get rid of?

Thanks

That's a tough age to fit a bow for--not a kid, but not yet a man. I faced the same dilema with my 15 year old nephew a year ago--we ended up going with a Hoyt Ultra Mag with the cam&1/2. Mostly because it's typical Hoyt quality and the cam&1/2 makes it easy to change the draw legnth. The cam&1/2 draws as smooth as butter too! The riser is magnesium instead of aluminum, so they cost about half as much as the high end hoyts. Just so you know, this is coming from a guy that is currently shooting a Mathews and an Elite, I don't even own a Hoyt at the present time so my opinion is NOT biased. Good luck!

bow tech black hawk or a mathews mustang. Depending on his size they might even be to small but both are good bows

I've heard that Browning offers some sort of "bow as you grow program", I think you buy a youth bow and when he/she out grows it...pay $50 and upgrade. Heard this word of mouth so not sure, might be worth looking into. I'm not a big Darton fan but my 8 year old just starting using one this year. Nice one cam youth bow.

I went through this with my boys recently. Bought a Martin Jauguar on sale, installed a quick tune finger rest and a 5 pin tru glo site. With a half dozen gold tips, I think I was in it $350. I can shoot this bow as well as my high dollar bowtechs--I'm impressed. My only beef was with the vibration/noise. I intalled an STS and it is great. Martin claims its the best shooting bow in its price range. I belive them after having played with my sons for the last year or so. His was a 45-60lb mode. I think this was a good compromise. Started him out with low poundage. Recently, we cranked it down all the way(it maxes out at 57lbs). I bought my 9 year old a browning mirage. I am not nearly as impressed as with the Martin. Just my humble opinion.
