My son is turning 14 this coming spring. I would like to buy him a bow that would be good for 3-5 years. I do not want to pay the top dollar, but would be willing to go around $300. What are your thoughts on the bows I should look at?

You might want to look at the Outfitter from Parker. I believe it retails for around $299. I have not been a huge fan of Parker in the past, but I feel that they have made some large strides over the past few years. I checked one out at Gander Mtn last week and was fairly impressed.

PSE makes bows with a lot of poundage and draw length adjustments for the growing archer. Usually prices are good and the bows are also great!

My wife shoots the Pse spyder with the rim fire cam it has amazing draw length adjustments my wife has about a 25 -26 inch draw length and the limbs are from 40-50 pounds. Well I hurt my shoulder and cant pull back my 70 pound bow. so I changed modules and moved the draw stop, now Iam shooting her bow at 50 pounds and a 29 inch draw length so I think your son can definetely grow into this bow and it is very quite and has a smooth cam and its around 75 percent let off. If I ever get my wife or my son another bow it will definetely be a PSE Spyder. hope this helps, Bootarcher

I would also look at the PSE bows. I have a PSE Nova because it is all that I could afford and I have had it for 2 years now. It has been a very nice bow for the price. But now I am ready to upgrade to higher grade bow.

Hoyt all the way! :) Actually, all the models suggested will do fine.
