My brother has a Bookcliffs muzzleloader deer permit. We have our eye on a very good typical. We are worried an archery hunter may harvest him. I will not be able to make it down there again until mid september. Would all you Bookcliffs archery tag holders please post your pictures or let me know if you harvest a buck. Thank you!!

I have a bc archery tag, & I have my eye on a 190 typical off the south end, hope this isn't the one your after cause I have 10 days in there to get him :) I'll post where he came from when I pull the trigger, I also have a 180+ non-typical scouted that will be much easier to get than the typical so either way I'll have a pic up by the 1st of sept.

Thanks for your reply Drake. Good luck to you on your hunt. I can't wait to see your picture! I read an article a couple of months ago stating this year should be the best for the Bookcliffs since it went to limited entry. After spending some time there this summer, I can believe it.

Muley_hntr, I'll bet your brother is stoked. I know I am. I've got the same permit and can't wait for the hunt to roll around. Made a scouting trip two weeks ago where we saw three bucks I wouldn't hesitate one bit to drop the hammer on, and bunch of others in the 22"-24" range. The thing I noticed is there's a lot of big two and three points. I'd like to make one more scouting trip after the bow hunt is over, but don't know if I'll make it or not.

Best of luck to you and your brother on the hunt. Maybe we'll see you guys out there.

Take care.

PS. I also sent you a PM.

Does anyone have any reports from thier archery hunts? My brother has a muzzleloader tag down there as well. He has a friend that shot a 27" buck last week with his bow. DOn't know many details. He said the hunting was abit more tough than they expected due to all the bear hunters with dogs down there. Does anyone know when the bear hunters will be out of there if any time soon.

Also my bro hasn't been down since before the archery hunt and will make one more trip before the muzz opens but, if anyone has any suggestions or advice for him please pass it along to me at [email protected] or pm me here. I don't want anyones top secrets but, if you are done with your hunt and don't mind sharing some tips it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton, and hope you had a great hunt!! TS

What happened to Drake? He said he would have a pic up by Sept. 1st, did I miss it?

The bowhunt is winding down. Lets hear about those Bookcliffs bucks!! I know of a couple that were harvested there but, still no 190 class buck!! Pheew, maybe he's still alive!! My friend harvested a 22" 3x4 last week. Not a huge buck, but a good one with a bow.

Well I have been kinda ashamed to post the pic of the buck I killed, It's a nice 4 point but not the buck that I wanted, I put together a cd of all my times scouting and the harvested deer at the end, the cd I feel turned out great I would like to put the whole cd on the video section of mm but I am kind of clueless as to how to do it. The worst part of my hunt was I filmed a few 170 class deer that I passed up the 1st couple days of the hunt and ended up with a smaller buck, I have been kicking myself everyday since the arrow flew.

Been there, done that. Passed up several 28-30 inch bucks in the Books in 2001, hoping for the monster and then settled for a 20 incher last day. Congrats on taking a buck anyway. I look at the pics of the bucks I let walk and fight back the tears. One 26 inch 8x6 and a tall 28 inch 5x5 always haunt me.

Look at it this way guys. It's not all about the trophy, and at least you got to spend the whole hunting time looking at good bucks, and waiting w/ anticipation for that one big monster.

Michael~All Gods creatures welcome... right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.
