I hate to even ask because I know this is sacred information. I am looking for some info about the south end of the books (utah). My dad and I have been putting in for the books and hope to draw a tag in the next couple of years. I have never been out there and would like to take my boy out and do some looking for horns and getting to know the unit a little. I don't need your honey hole, just a good place to started and I will figure out the rest. You can pm me or send me an email if you prefer. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

From the south, I would start as high as you can get from the road where the snow line will stop you and then start hiking from there. Just be careful to stay off of indian land and you should turn up a few with some miles put in. Good Luck!

went out last weekend and most the buck were still packin. but where there were deer we found bone. look for the deer and hit that draw!

Whats the snow and road conditions like on the south end? I know a big storm is coming in this week.

Don't push the deer, find areas where there has been deer in there but don't push them! So don't hit the draw the deer are in.

Elkoholic,

Believe me I am not trying to be rude, or offend you in any way, but the only information that anyone should share with you on the subject is take some time and go for a ride with your family, or friends, and experiment for yourself. I have spent more than half of my life on the book cliffs, and can tell you, it is almost the perfect place on earth... If only it had a place to fish! I have spent countless hours, and miles of wear on boots, and a few trucks, learning what I now consider to be "sacred" information. I do not think anybody should "stay away" from this area, nor do I consider it "MY" mountain, I only wish to share with you my opinion. and my opinion is that if you take the time and learn the area through your own experiences, the memories will be that much more important to "you" and you will have a sense of achievement. Should you ever run into me on an excursion, I tend to ramble on at the mouth and will probably share helpful hints on such an occurrence, but you would have completed half the battle and already be there! Hope to run into you one day on these "Cool Cliffs"... I am always in a black Chevy pickup.

Again please take away from this what you wish, and know it is only "my" opinion.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-04-11 AT 06:23AM (MST)[p]Sorry, I guess I disagree with you a little on this subject. Ain't this what this website is about? Helping others out? I didn't ask for any specifics. With the price of gas as high as it is it was nice to have a starting point. It's a long trip out there for me. I took my dad and one of my kids out there and we had a good time. I've got a lot to learn before I draw a tag, but I'm glad there are people on here that will help a person out. If you or anyone else needs any info like this I would do the same for you.

Where are you from Elkaholic? I live in Carbon County. If you are near here, and would like to join me the next time I run down there, just let me know. Gas is a little cheaper when its split... Looks like you found your way down there though. Nice pics.

Do it. I have a few friends from over your way. One that even goes down there with me on occasion.
