How was the trip down south? Always curious to see how you guys did down there.

Muleyslyr:

It was one of the most difficult hunts I've had in the Arizona desert in a long time. VERY dry conditions, unseasonably high temperatures, and less than mediocre rut activity. The best buck I saw in 14 days of hunting was a 28" 4x4 (180" class) and I only saw him twice. Could never close the distance to a range I was comfortable with on him.

On day 13, I came across a 24" buck bedded under a mesquite tree. I was failry confident it was the same 155" 4x4 I had seen a few times before. Well, it wasn't! :)

He ended up being a farily tall 24" 3x3. To make matters worse, when I stuck him, he got caught up in the mesqute tree and broke part of his main bean, G1, and G4 on his right side! Just my luck, eh? Definately not the best I've arrowed, but he'll eat just as fine. :)

All things considered, that's a great deer. The weather around these parts really has me worried. If this drought gets any worse, we may have to let the animals recover a year or two. Nice buck BOHNTR and thanks for sharing the pics.

Nice buck, congratulations! Looks like one I was chasing around for a couple days. BOHNTR I sent you a PM.

Roy....nothing wrong with that buck! Sounds like you worked hard, definately something to proud of. Fourteen days, that's a long time, gotta be beat after that. The broken tines adds some character to him. :)

I swear I'm gonna go down there next year. Brother lives in Chandler and have been trying to talk him into meeting me up there for a January hunt. Gotta do it while it's still OTC! Congrats on another successful hunt!

That's looks pretty nice to me! I don't know how you do it man....I know he's not your biggest, but I've never even killed one w/ a rifle that big.

Hey thanks guys, I wasn't even going to post him here, as I wasn't sure if folks wanted to see a medicore buck....never know around here lately. :)

Most bowhunters I've talked to that hunted the Arizona desert this year have had a TOUGH time finding decent bucks. Almost no rutting activity and hot temps.....definatley different from last years record rain.
