I don't know how to explain my rotten luck...I hunted hard to try and find the matches, but the elk here are roamers, and it is very thick PJ woodland. Another instance this season, I was walking back to my truck and cut across about a 3/4 mile sagebrush flat (after hiking for three hours) when I encountered a small 5-pt. brownie rt. side. I searched for the match to no avail, but several days later, went back and searched and found what I thought was the match...when I got home I found I had another rt. side! This spurred me on with determination... the next trip out, now zigzagging across this flat, I was fortunate to find another small 5-pt., and a small 6-pt., finished up with a tall spike... I couldn't believe this... ALL rt. side antlers!I have even told friends about where I found the bigger antlers, but there are a lot of shed hunters that hit this area, and there are ATV tracks everywhere you go (there were fresh tracks all over where I found my sheds), but where I found the big antlers, there were no fresh signs of elk or humans, and both antlers were in the bottom of very thick debris-filled draws. I thoroughly enjoyed the hunts though. Twice I surprised groups of elk (one bunch of 21 and another of 19; also encountered a group of 5 bulls starting to grow their antlers) and was able to capture them on my camcorder!
