I continue to find these nice singles but never can match them up. I would think a heavy bull like this would want to get rid of there other side right away. How far apart have you found matches?
For elk, often really far apart if you are lucky enough to find the other side at all. 1.25 miles apart is my furthest match up and that was totally lucky, I wasn't even looking for the other side at that distance. Most the time for me I have to be happy with a great single.
I'm betting they're almost always within a quarter mile; we just have to find it. That's happened to me plenty, thinking I couldn't find it when it was hiding behind another tree. Lots of room within a quarter mile on a mountain side.

I would of thought the same thing but I have gone over areas pretty well. I usually find another horn looking for the match. I would think it woukd be uncomfortable for them and they would make it come off.
I just matched up a set that was near two miles apart. Look hard and hopefully it's still on the ground

It can be a REALLY long distance. I was actually just talking to a buddy of mine about this and he said another friend of his matched up a set to 382 inch set and the sides were 12 miles apart as the crow flies. His friend that found the set wasn't even looking for the match when he found it. They knew it was the same bull though because they had a bunch of video of him.
Thats amazing. I wish that wasn't the case! I guess I will just have to keep putting the boots on the ground in hopes of matching some up! How is your season coming? Most of the ones I have found are from the same area and its crazy how two different bulls sheds almost look like matches.
