Over the years I have started to become a die hard shed hunter. Yes I have the shed bug. BUT I have only found elk sheds. Lots and lots of elk. I want to find mule deer sheds. So I was wondering when is the best time to get out there and look for mule deer sheds.

Thanks

If you have found lot's and lot's of elk bone i don't think you need help! If you do the best time is when there is 2' of snow.

see i'm just the opposite i find lots and lots of mule deer sheds and just a handful of elk sheds a year so how about you take me elk shed hunting and i'll take you mule deer hunting.

I find both elk and deer. Sometimes you can find areas that both elk and deer use during the time they shed but usually I'll find all deer sheds or all elk. Deer shed in Jan.-March so I usually find my deer sheds 1000 feet lower in elevation than elk. Just scout deer this winter during January and see where they are, just make sure you don't run them out while you are scouting :)

I find em pretty much year round but I'd have to say it's definitely easier to spot them at a distance right after the snow melts off in the spring or late October when all the leaves have fallen off the brush. Hope that helps but I doubt it will...just gotta get out in shed country and put miles on the boots to find em any time of year.

good point i learned that if you got between then you dont have crowds or anyone else trying to beat you to them and its usually really cold so there isnt much for people out so you can tresspas to find them to just make sure no one is watching
