I was drawn for a unit 11 muley, up here its kinda a big deal. However I talked with a friend from Southern Idaho and told him I got the big muley tag he inturn said sweet were going Bennett Hills. I said no a Waha tag and he was like what is Waha. So this made me think a bit. What are the best tags for Idaho, for all the game. this would be my list

Sheep unit 11
Goat unit 18
Antelope unit 42
Elk unit 11
Muley unit 45 (now that i have my unit 11)
moose unit 18

I would say you have a chance of killing a buck as big as any in 45 with that 11 tag. Just may not have a chance at seeing as many really nice ones. Also you will not have any issues with property access on 11 like I have heard about on 45.

I have had that 11 tag for elk and i was pretty dissapointed. i saw several bulls early before season, but it turned into a war zone befre the season with tribal hunters and during the opener with pale faces... sure there are some big bulls in there, but that was pretty crazy.

Not sure 18 holds the best goats either. I Have heard of some really nice ones down in 27.

No way 18 has the best moose. Not even close. 14 and 15 have many more big bulls. Unit 1 and others up north are far superior in numbers. Like times 10 or 15. even for the best units in the central part. I have also heard some very positive moose reports from the SE part of the state. Hunting moose in the sage brush; who would'a thunk it?!

Antelope, well that would be WY! Just kidding, but if you ever hunt WY for speed goats, it is pretty impressive even against anything ID can offer. I have heard some good things about the Salmon/Challis areas.

All the hunts I have listed, i have drawn

Moose - 17-5 ???? you may ask... Wait 4 weeks and see the pics of a top 25 B&C Bull I should be harvesting. :)
Sheep - 11
Goat - 36-1
Deer - 40
Elk - 40 (The Early Tag)
Antelope - 42
Black Bear & Cougar - The ENTIRE DAMN FRANK CHRUCH AND SELWAY WILDNERNESSES.

Good call on the unit 18 moose wow dont even know where that came from I meant 8a as I elk hunt there and have seen a lot of moose and some good size ones. I agree with the unit 18 goat thing aswell I ve heard that 27's and even 51 hold bigger ones but 18 I 've been told is more do able with a bow.

Idtrophy,

That is a very impresive list of tags to draw! with the exception of the moose tag. I have no doubt that top 25 moose lives in 17. I would bet that 95% of the bulls in that unit are never seen by a tag holder. I have ran in to some hogs guiding elk hunters on the the west side of 17 and in 16A... I killed my moose in 16a as well. he made BC but not by much.

Mind putting some kills behind those other tags! 36 Goat and a Unit 11 sheep tag!!!!! That tag is a big deal any where in the country.

Unit 40 early elk hunt! holy moly man that is a heck of a tag as well.

You mind picking some lottery numbers for me?

Problem is I am only 26 and my sheep and goat I drew in high school, so I didn't have the time and money to seriously hunt. I did NOT harvest a sheep and will probably never get that tag again.

Elk 40 early - Drew unit 40 4 years ago..Saw 3 B&C Elk and one that might push 380, settled for a 320 6 point.

Deer 40- Had the tag 2 years ago and saw a lot of 170-185 bucks. 1 that might have gone 195-200...Settled on a 175 4 point last day.

Sheep 11- Only hunted 3 days in the best unit in Idaho and did not harvest. Was my freshman year of High School.

Goat 36-1- Drew my senior year in highschool. Shot the first billy I saw, but after the shot, spooked a group of 5 billys bigger than mine. Only a 8", but still respectable.

Antelope 42- Drew last year and shot a 14" buck...Probably saw at least 30 different bucks.

Moose 17-5....OHHHH JUST YOU WAIT AND SEE!!!

Sheep 37

Moose 71, You better believe it!
Antelope 37
Elk No clue, I need help on that one.

I drew a Idaho 40-1 late deer tag this year. Do you have any pointers or starting points that you wouldn't mind sharing with me to get me started in a good area!!! Thanks for any information and your original message is real encouraging.

Have you ever hunted unit 11. You have a really good chance at a good buck. Spend alot of time out there. I sent you a PM

Muledeer - Unit 11
Antelope - Unit 39
Moose - Unit 8A
Sheep - Unit 11
Elk - ?, Haven't looked into it, we've always seemed to have good luck on over the counter hunts.
Goat - I've always wanted to hunt the 7 devils but am not sure what unit that is.

These may not be the best units for some of the species but they have always been on the top of my wish list!
