Best 7pp unit in Wyoming?

So what's the best Wyoming deer unit with let's say 7-9 points excluding unit G? Are there any decent units in that point spread? Seems like there are a bunch of units a guy can draw with 0-4 points then just a handful in the 7-9 range and then a few of the "top tier" units 101,102,119,128,130 and such that take 14-15. So are there any in the middle worth it or do you hold out till you get max points? Would love to hear some opinions.

I have enough to draw G but I don't know how interested I am in backpack style hunt like I feel you would need to do in G, I'm more interested in a lower elevation sage and cedar hunt that I could take my kids on but after studying things for longer than I'd like to admit nothing is peaking my interest much until you get into the max point area.

I think that finding a good unit in that point range is what a lot of hunters looking for in all the western states. No man land. Don't feel bad thou. I have one less then max after I missed the application period when they made the switch to having to buy a point

I agree with tracker12, you're kinda in no mans land. All the units you mentioned pauns08 would be great hunts... if you had the points to draw them. But then again, I'm really not all that familiar with Wyoming, so maybe there's other options out there?

You hear so much doom and gloom on units not being what they expected, it's scary to pull the trigger and apply. I think managing your expectations (easier said than done) is the number one factor in having an enjoyable/successful hunt. If you don't know a unit expecting to see a few or possibly any 180" bucks is a pipe dream most likely. A solid frame 4x4 should probably be the expectation as an out of state hunter with no time to scout or previous knowledge of a unit. I'm in the same boat as you and it's scary to burn points on a unit, I get it. If you are taking your kids, go in with the goal of hoping to see enough deer to keep their interest piqued, and get a chance at a quality (155"-165") deer, with the chance of seeing a trophy. Then let me know how it goes!! lol

I'll probably hold out for G just because im close, but after that likely wont have this many points again.

Doom and gloom usually comes from guys not putting in the work and having too high of expectations. Is there any areas you're gonna be able to drive around and take your pick of 180 plus bucks from the road with 7 points. No. Probably not even with max points. Burn your points and scout and hunt hard and I doubt you'll be disappointed

That's exactly the boat I'm in I don't think I'm a good enough hunter to hunt region G and not in good enough shape.

I've studied them all daily for the last couple years I know what I can and can't draw just wondered if this mid ground units were decent or just hold out. I've never hunted Wyoming and don't have much time to scout it so obviously I'm not expecting to go kill a 180+ buck but more wanting a unit a guy could see quite a few deer and maybe kill a 160 type buck would be fine with me. I know I can't expect to much with never setting foot on the before a hunt.

Thank you I'll look into it more, honestly I haven't really looked at G to much just because it seems the typical G hunts aren't in that type of country.

The reality of the situation is you'll never be able to get to the max point pool. There's approximately 18k+ NR in front of you and really only a handful of tags in the primo units. People will die with max points is more likely the reality...

Find a good unit and have a great hunt, don't get caught up in the hunt for some glory tag as it likely will be a poo show anyways as they always are with spotters, friends, guides, look-lou's scouting for when they draw in 20 years...

Ya you're definitely not wrong I've been reading about the s**t show in 130 and I think 128 this year, I'll probably end up doing a hunt that I can split my points with my kids (12&14) and go camp with the family for a week and learn some new country and hopefully tag a decent buck or two.

Near to you point wise. Never been close to the hunt area let alone stepped foot in it. Partner picked the spot from onX, saw 2 vehicles that may have been Deer hunters in 5 days. Didn't see a lot of Deer but it was mostly because of the terrain.
We were both very happy with the hunt and the Deer taken.

And we road hunted with glass .....

According to WY website there were 1,812 NR with MAX points going Into the 2019 draw. Lots more as you move down in points.

Mine was with the first buck we saw. We saw 1st one, backed up, and he was out of sight that quick. Snuck down, crawled up the small ridge, looked down and saw 2 bucks. I shot the biggest then 6 more came up out of the cut. All 3x and 4x in that group. That country is full of deep gullies from old water runoff. Deer were invisible unless they were up on top.
Mine and partners were the biggest we saw.
We didn’t see a lot, usually 2-4 per outing.

True statement regarding 1 under max and in no man’s land…plus max points draw odds suk. Sheds some light on points value. Then add in the the 90/10 change possibilities.
