good question.. i found it just to be extra weight on the pack...
In your previous "bi-pod" post i think the $450 tri-pod is mainly for the name your paying for.. i bought a nice tri-pod 5 years ago for $45 bucks and it has been rolled on by a horse and dropped and is still trucking away...
 
nfh, Yeah sure but mine comes with a nice handy place to rest your rifle! ;-)
