jm77,
I hadn't heard that and I don't remember reading anything about it. It wouldn't surprise me if it happened. The bears are active in 54 well into November. The G&F have seldom charged anybody for these type of incidents. The last time was a few years ago on the North Fork of the Shoshone. A G&F bear biologist shot one mistaking it for a black bear that he had a tag for. I will keep my ears open for any other information. There would be a little irony in all this if the warden, Chris Queen, were the person investigating the case. He shot and killed a sow grizzly in October this year while elk hunting in the Sunlight.
Last year there was an investigation in late October over an incident in the Crandall Area. The shooter turned himself in. He had been a victim of a grizzly mauling about 5-6 years before that. I heard the investigation went nowhere because they couldn't find the bear.
These bear incidents will continue to increase. I think that I ran into at least 15 grizzly bears while hiking and hunting in 2017. I always worry more about how many I don't see. Those are the bears that will get you.
just sayin...mh
