Yeah, we've got I think 20 players over the past two graduating classes who've gone on to play NCAA Division 1 baseball, a bunch more who play juco ball or at lower collegiate levels, and six of our kids who've been drafted in the last three years. Some have made it, some have dropped out or been injured and some turned pro instead of going to college. Don't mistake this as me claiming credit. I only have them for a few months each summer, but I said it to give perspective that I'm around a lot of quality baseball players and know a thing or two about higher levels of baseball and head hunting. The acheivements of the boys are theirs entirely, not mine.
For more acheivements by my guys, over the last four years, three of them have been selected by USA Baseball for tryouts with the Youth National Team, and another two had tryouts with the Junior National Team. One boy made the JNT and played in the Jr. World Championships two years ago, in Mexico. In fact, if you subscribe to Baseball America, you can read a very nice article about him in the current issue, under the Low A ball report. Lars Anderson is the young man, and he's got a very bright future as one of the top prospects in the Boston Red Sox organization. He played with us over three summers. Another young man, David Dinelli, just signed with the Astros as a sixth round pick last month. David played with us over 4 1/2 summers. We'd probably have a few more of these caliber players, but we've only gone through three graduating classes out of high school so far.
Our class of 2008 is going to be fairly weak, with only a few players moving on to the highest levels, but look out in 2009. We've got kids who are already drawing serious interest from some of the top D1 programs in the country, including a few Pac 10 schools. I'm very excited for what some of them might acheive.
I had to jump on here an edit this a bit for my boys, cause I'm pretty darned proud of them. The schools they've played at, or will be at this fall, include: Santa Clara, Fresno State, Sacramento State, USF, San Jose State, Arizona, UC Irvine, UOP, Cal, Oregon State, Hawai'i, UC Davis, Cal State Northridge, St. Mary's, Long Beach State, and some smaller schools. The juco kids mostly play at some of the top schools in California, Sacramento City, Cosumnes River, Sierra College (my son among them) and also American River and Butte.
