Recoverd from my buck a few years ago. Was impressed by the expansion. When the smoke cleared he was dead upside down. Also had this g5 expandable in him.

I have recovered four from animals that I have got over the years. Many are pass through shots and end well. Out of the four I recovered only one did not peal open as they are designed to do. The one that did not was a 80 yard shot on a antelope. It stood up from its bed and I dropped it back down in its bed dead so I would not say it failed in killing the animal fast, it just pealed inward instead of out. Not sure why. I hit a good amount of the spine/neck on the shot.

Where it is legal, Barnes 290 TMZ has been my go to bullet for a long time. On deer you can shoot at extreme angles and know it will go to the other side. They say 1300 fps is the minimum they will open but I have never had a long enough shot for one to impact that low, maybe 1500 ish.
