Well, I completed my anual January AZ bow hunt last week with the regular "BOHNTR Crew". My partners faired okay, arrowing two decent desert bucks. I passed quite a few bucks and eventually blew my chance at a real good one. (I hate it when I mis-judge yardage)

Fred's buck is one I had passed earlier in the hunt. I sure wished I hadn't once I saw him on the gorund. He was an old buck that I have followed over the years. He was about 8 years old, 23" wide, lots of mass, tall, with a lot of cheaters. With only a 3-point side, he still grossed 158" P&Y.

Wally arrowed his buck on the last morning after passing it earlier in the hunt. His buck is a 25" 4 point with eye guards. Even with a broken G-1 & G-4 he grossed in the 150's. Not a bad last day buck. Hope you enjoy the photos.

Man i would kill for those bucks, and to think that you passed them up. MAN!!!!!

Thanks guys.

I saw quite a bit of rutting activity with medium sized bucks like these. It seemed some of bigger bucks may have already rutted and were on the move looking for other does.

BOHNTR, Looks you had a great hunt! I always sit up here in North Idaho this time of yr thinking it sure would be fun to be on that Jan. AZ muley hunt! Looks like I was right! Is this hunt possible for nonres? I'm guessing I'd have to draw a tag? Elk & a lot of wt up here but the muleys are spotty. I've killed 1/2 dozen up here but hard to find a quality buck. I guess I could head to South Idaho but that would interfere w/my elk hunting. I guess thats why I've always dreamed about that Jan. hunt. Thanks for the pics.

Actually, I'm a non-resident of Arizona as well. The tags are very easy to get, as they are over-the-counter for archery only. Arizona offers the January desert rut season, then if not successful, you can hunt with the same tag in most zones in Aug/Sep. If you're still not successful, you can hunt on the same tag the last two weeks of December in the desert zones during the pre-rut. Lots of hunting for archers there.

BOHNTR, hey TY for the info! I have to finish paying for a Moose/Mule deer hunt in Alberta, (BIG OUCH) this hunt has already cost me a new pickup for my wife.(she's finally letting me drive it) Arizona deer tag sounds alot cheaper than what its cost me for a Canada hunt by far LOL. Will defenitely be doing that in 06, Thanks again!

Here is a pic from my Az Jan hunt. Here is the short story. Me and my buddy snuck into Roy's hunting area and my buddy Terry shot one of the leftover bucks that Roy passed up!! The smallest of the shooter bucks that we saw on our trip. Roy I want to here more about the toad that you missed. I'm hearing storys and the buck is getting bigger and bigger. Congrats to you guys. What's up bud, hear you have a work party coming up? Don't you know you should be out scouting and calling coyotes instead.

No "toads" to speak of, but I did miss a pretty good one about 30".....straight out missed too with no one else to blame but Ol' BOHNTR. :) I hate when I mis-judging yardage, especially at those type of bucks.

Congrats to Terry and his buck. Looks good.
