AZ Bowhun-Over the Counter

I have a brother in law that sometimes hunts near Wikieup in January and he buys an over the counter tag. I have thought about doing the same. Is that an area that has plenty of deer? I want to see game not necessarily take a big animal. Are there other areas where I should look into further that will have more deer? I appreciate any info.

Do you want to hunt in Jan? During the Fall there are over the counter deer and turkey archery tags, During the fall there are more areas open to hunt. During Late Dec and Jan only the Southern Part of the state is open, with one exception and that is unit 10. With more areas to hunt in fall your chance of seeing more animals is greater in the fall, Although when you hunt in Dec or Jan the rut is going on so the chances of seeing a big one is more likley

Thanks- I need to call F&G to get more info on whats open and whats not. Ive never hunted AZ but I'm trying to extend my hunting season. My wife wont care for it but its what I love to do. AZ is only a 3/4 days drive for me so I figure I can take maybe 5 or 6 days and she might be ok with that. Thanks for the help. How cold will it be in January in AZ?

www.azgfd.com it is a pretty good web site to find info. As far as hunting in AZ in Jan the Southern part of the state it is very nice weather, A little cold in the morning but after the sun comes up it is just fine. Very Rare will it get below freezing and will warm up to 60 during the day.
