What kind of elk arrows do you shoot? I'm just gearing up for next season and I'm trying to figure out which arrows to buy. I've heard that the new gold tips are good, does anyone shoot these and if so which ones.
Gold tips. Tried them for the first time this year. Already harvested my deer. The arrows fly good. XT Hunter (5575). It is always a good idea to shoot more than one brand. You'll get a feel with your set up.
I will put in my vote for the new Easton Axis shaft. Small diameter for extra penatration and the HIT system sure makes it great for broadheads. I tried three different kinds of heads and they all flew great on these arrows. Also in the past have had good luck with Beman ICS Hunters.
Easton Axis ST is my choice. I tried them this year and I am completly satisfied. I killed a 165 P&Y buck this year and had a complete pass through. (I'll post pictures soon) They were very easy to tune. Thats my vote.
I made the mistake of using carbons and 3 bladed broadheads this year to get a little bit more speed. Elk are tough, I will be going back to a 2219 arrow and a 125 grain two bladed broadhead. My opinion the heavier the better. My carbon choice is great on deer but elk is a different story.
I made the switch to Carbons this year for my Elk hunt in AZ. I looked at all of them and decided on the Cabelas Outfittter Series with the Buff Tuff finish. They shoot fantastic with my 125g 3-blade muzzys and weigh in at around 13g per inch.
Rem, did you post any pics of that bad boy anywhere? I'd love to see him.
Sounds like a nice set up there as well. My 2312's and 100 grain tips tunes so easily that I decided not to worry over the 3" difference in groups ata 40 yards. I haven't had luck tuning with lighter carbons out of my setup.
I've been testing these shafts on CA Blacktails this year. VERY good shafts that are tough as nails. I'm using the radial X 300 Pro's which have a straightness of .001 and weigh within a grain of each other. Their overall weight is a little more than Carbon Express 3D selects in the same shaft size but that's a good thing in my book. Hope it helps.
Carbon Express Terminator select! Awsome and very consistant with a great price. 10.7 grs bare shaft and .003 straight, =/- 1gr weight for $45. Gold tip xt cammo 9.8 my second choice for carbon.
Gold Tip's all the way, I shoot the Pro Hunter 7595's and they fly excellent out of my bowtech liberty. Try mtnarchery.com to purchase them excellent prices and service.
I don't know why the camo would be louder then the black out of a wisker biscut, the camo actually have a smoother finish??
i started shooting the vapors swithing from gold tips and i really like them,, they are both great arrows as long as you dont get the cheap gold tips...as anyone shot the new shafts from high country or something,, i saw and ad about them supposed to give you alot more speed than a regular carbon>??? cbryant
Gold tips. I have been shooting gold tips for several years now, and no complaints. I recently purchased gold tip pro hunter. +/- .001 straightness and +/- .003 grains. A little pricey but I like them. I also shoot thunderheads and muzzy's and I have had no problems with tuning. nmhs
