Arizona Javelina

Anyone hunt Javelina in Arizona? My dad retired down there, and I would love to shoot a pig while visiting. I have to put in for a draw, but just wondering what the actual odds are of getting drawn. Kinda steep for costs but a lot of pigs on the farms in his area. He talks to the farmers (his life long career) constantly and they want them all shot. Dad said they are mean little $%^&* who will chase you if you get too close. Not asking for areas just if anyone does it and is it that much fun or worth the $260.00.

They are fun to hunt and it's not that hard to get drawn for them. If they are worth the money would have to be your call. I think they are fun to hunt but $200+ is pretty steep for a 50 pound stinky critter that isn't that great to eat. If you have the funds I say try it at least once.

I have hunted these little critters every year since 2000 in Arizona. Get an over the counter deer tag and maybe you'll get lucky and have a chance at a nice buck. Two years ago I was hunting Javelinas and came upon 9 deer. The buck in charge was at least a 30 incher. Had him at 35 yards, a perfect shot, but no deer tag. Shame on me. They are allot of fun to hunt and if you have the extra money, go for it. Best of luck.

Depending on what area, there may still be leftover tags available this year. Check out AZGFD website and see if their are any. I agree, it is best to have a deer tag too, just in case.

It's Bush's fault!!!

Prolly not gonna be any leftover tags around this late, I picked up a leftover tag in October. Pigs are fun to hunt and a great starter for new hunters. I cant wait to take my daughter on her first big game hunt, 3 more years and it will definitely be for pigs.

Actually, as of Jan 4th, there are several hundred tags left.
