Area 7 elk

Well I went out last weekend and shot a cow. Thought I'd at least get some meat with my tag. We saw numerous elk this year, but many of the herds were on private by the time gun season rolled around. I did best bowhunting thats for sure. I passed up a few bulls and on the last day of the any elk season(November 25th) we got onto 3 huge bulls that we spotted about a mile away passing through some open BLM land but by the time we got to them, they had crossed the fence. They were walking fast and the wind was blowing 40mph. I am not even going to guess how big this bull was but I about sh_t my pants!!! Area 7 is very frustrating with all the private and we even had one rancher try to kick us of a piece of state land saying it was private. He said he was going to call the game warden and we told him we would stay there and wait for the warden. The rancher never called!! What an ass! Only 7 months until the season opener!
GO POKES!

Are there any reputable outfitters or landowners where a person can pay a reasonable trespass fee to hunt in unit 7? I know it's a very big unit but there's bound to be some good elk hunting there. In todays age, it seems like you're gonna have to expect to pay something for the opportunity to hunt for a good bull elk on private land or with an outfitter. Any comments?

Thanks in advance!!!

Sorry to say that I don't know of any places where you can do a trespass hunt and get consistent quality. There are a few ranchers that let folks on, but the elk tend to come and go on those places as far as I know. Area 7 is a frustrating place to hunt. There are big elk, but nearly all are on private places. Even a good part of the public lands have access restricted because of the need to cross private land to get there.

I hunting unit 7 last year, archery was definitely better. Way too much private with fees in excess of 3 to 4k for uniting. The non private places were way crowded. I did pass up on some bulls archery, pasted on one 5 point rifle, ended up eating tag soup.

For all you guys that hunted unit 7 elk last year, how many points did it take to draw and was it a special or regular license? Just curious.

as far as a guided hunt try lone star cattle company. 5 grand
but i'd like some hunters to get in there and run some elk out.
