I took this pig close to mariposa in kathies valley on a private ranch that my buddie owns. She is around 325# and was a mean one.

Early this morning we headed out and when we opened the gate to the ranch we spotted 5 nice hogs feeding towards the bottom of canyon about 700 yards away so we went past the spot about 4 times seeing what they were going to do come down the mountain or go back up and not allow me a chance.

On the 4th time driving by I grabbed my glasses and started to look around in the river bottom and noticed that there was many more pigs down there so i started down the hill. My friend david was watching me from the little dirt road on top of the hill as i went down to the pigs. The wind was perfect i knew that i would have to be very quite.

I got down to the river and started to cross it as it was about waist deep, I was holding my bow over my head when i spotted a few hogs run by about 40 yards so i hurried out of site and got behind some bushes and got up within 10 yards of a big boar about 400#'s digging a hole. When i pulled back the bow my arm him some limbs and the pig bolted about 50 yards and stopped. When i followed them i ran into 4 big pigs all withing 40 yards and i knew it was now or never. I picked out what i thoght was a big boar and shot. I put my 50 pin on his upper shoulder because i thought he was about 50 or so but when i saw the arrow hit it was a little hi. I watched as the pigs scattered out of the bottom atleast 40 pigs down there. And watched as the pig that i hit ran away trying to stay up i knew i hit him in a deadly spot and watched him until he layed down. I walked up within about 15 yards and was watching the pig deciding weather or not to shot again. The pig quickly made up my mind for me it smelled me or something but it gathered the strenth to get on its feet and charge me with only a split second to shot i put it right in the boiler room fromt the front of his shoulder and into his lungs and heart. The pig flipped and died instantly. I have never had an experience like this one in my life before and its my first pig with a bow not bad for a first bow pig.

sorry about the pick i left the camera so the pics are infront of my house.

Congrats on a super hog, Ryan. That's a great story. I had a similar experience with a hog, but I had my rifle. It was scary as heck, so you did a super job with the bow. Looks like you had another arrow left, though. Maybe you could have danced with the hog until you got it nocked - LOL! Great job.

Nice hog dude! What state? Nice second shot too - you are lucky to still have your limbs! You have to let us know how she tastes. I have heard the bigger ones are quite gamey. I hope to hunt one here in TX next month - rifle though.
