Archery Tech question

I have a bow that is about 1" too long in the drawlength for me to shoot comfortably. I feel like I have to "stretch" too much to keep it in the letoff zone. The bow is adjusted as short of draw as it can go (26") but I think I need it in the 25" range.

Can I put a slightly shorter string on it to give me the shorter length or will it hurt the bow? I love the bow, it just seems like its a tad too long of draw for me.

I'm no Tech, but are you useing a release ? If so, try one of the shorter releases, like a "Tru-ball" "Short & Sweet". If you use a string loop, try shooting directly of the string.
A long time ago, I had a bow that was 1" to long for me, the "Pro" shop put a shorter string on it and that worked, but I would not recommend it.

I use an adjustable release and have it as short as I can comfortably use. You nailed it with the loop though... my draw length would be perfect without the loop... with it my natural draw length is right on the edge of the letoff and its really hard to stay right on that edge comfortably. I will ask the local bow shops what they recommend.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-20-06 AT 09:37PM (MST)[p]What kind of bow are you shooting? Cam type? I would assume you have the cam adjusted to the shortest setting? There may be shorter cams available. If you short string the bow you will increase the brace height and decrease the axle to axle length. This will decrease the draw weight quite a bit. The best option is to look at a smaller cam, this will allow the bow to operate at peak efficiency.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-21-06 AT 01:20AM (MST)[p]Dallan, some releases, like the "short & sweet" have the trigger foward, up near the tip. They do not take anything away from your draw length.
Heres another one by Scott with a short trigger.

See how close the trigger is to the hook, it buys you about 3/4" draw length compared to a regular release.

If you ask me you should just shoot of the string. I have seen many cases were a bow is to long and all they have to do is shoot off the string. But make sure it is set up right before you do it, or you could always buy different cams and im sure you can get a cam that would go down to 25 inches if not the only thing you can do is try shooting off the string.

Good luck.

Short stringing a bow is a trick we used to use with the older bows. It really depends on your cam type whether it would be okay or not. I would cut loose the loop and install eliminator buttons below the arrow to prevent the arrow from popping off the string at full draw. It is harder on the string but a much better fit for you personally. Good luck in what ever you choose.
