Anyone heard of APA archery bows? Supposedly they make a bow that has a peak draw weight of 50 lbs. that shoots an arrow over 300 FPS. Hard to believe, but a reliable source says he believes the guy and will be shooting one in a couple of weeks.

I have never heard of APA bows and am looking forward to see who they are. Just remember that that magical over 300 ft/sec figure is usually afforded with some trade off in accuracy. That's one of the reasons you rarely see factory shooters shooting the fastest bows in the lineup because they know they will give up points in competition. That's not to say that this product may be different. There's no question the technology exists.

One thing I know is that they are really ugly, at least to me anyways. Thats coming from someone who shoots a Hoyt and some people don't like they looks of them. 2005 will be there first year of manufactuer, not sure if they are available anywhere yet.

I agree that you are probably right about speed. However, many of todays "hot" hunting bows claim an IPO speed of over 300 fps. Of course, rigged for hunting, these bows rarely shoot 300+ fps. Therefore I just use the IPO rating as a comparison. If this bow can show an IPO of over 300 fps with only a 50 lb pull, that is truely amazing to me. Would be good for those getting on in years and with shoulder injuries that make pulling a 70 lb bow back any more.

As far as hunting goes, I just laugh at conversations that state that "their" bow is "better" than some other because it shoots 15 fps faster than another bow. For hunting, this increase speed is basically meaninlyless with todays bows.

Is there a place on the internet where a guy could go to see these bows? My search only turned up arrow rests.

txhunter58, thanks for the link. They have a different look. It appears that they liked the Hoyt, Bowtech, and Mathews risers and incorporated some of the better points of all of them in their design. They do have a different look about them and it will appeal to some. The proof will be in the pudding if they shoot accurately and fast at the low draw weight. The brace heights didn't appear to be all that bad. Who know's maybe these guys have some new innovations up their sleeve that may be of benefit. Only time will tell. They look interesting but man they won't win the homecoming queen nomination. But if they cook and shoot and feel good most guys will line up to take them out!
