Just kinda curious if many members out there shoot traditional, longbow-recurve and if you do, why?
I shoot 65# recurve, shelf, instinct but have NOTHING against more sophisticated compounds. My shooting distance is limited (20-25 yds very comfortable)but I like the equipment I have because it is light weight and very simple for the rough terrain I hunt.
Dont want this to start a "equipment war" so no bashing one side or the other, just curious??

I hunt with both (compound & traditional) every year, depending on what I'm hunting. Most of the time a compound. When I do hunt with traditional equipment, I shoot a #57 Brackenbury recurve, off the shelf, with either SuperCedar shafts or swagged aluminums. I also shoot a takedown recurve I made myself. They're fun to shoot, but like you, my distance is limited to 30 yards max.

I don't hunt with it as often as I used to, but it's fun to hunt hogs and such with. Javelina are a perfect animal to hunt with traditional equipment as well.

Yes, i believe it was. I ordered 6 dozen about 5 years ago, so I haven't had to order any in quite some time.

I am having a recurve custom made as we speak. Should be ready by May. I cannot wait. I bought it to use on javalina in AZ, and hopefully some hogs over here in CA if I can find a place that isnt too pricey, and if time permits.

I shoot both modern and a Longbow. My longbow is Pronghorn 62", 60#, lefthanded. I really love shooting the longbow.

I sold my compound 20 years ago, and never regreted it..

I shoot a fox takedown with ash arrows.
Latley I've been playing around with carbon arrows.

Happy shooting..

I've been like BOHNTR shoot recurves most the time, but hunt with the compound. I'm tempted to sell all the compounds and just shoot the recurves, but can't quite get my self to do it yet.

I'm a bit more of techno geek though and love all the new carbon fiber and machined stuff. I've actually been working on my own carbon fiber riser. Who knows if I'll ever get it done, but there's still hope.

Cheers,
Pete
