Anyone Find?

Hey Guys - it’s a LONGSHOT but curious if anyone either harvested, or picked up, this stud buck. He is from the Boulder, CO area. Last I saw him he was still in velvet and was a 5x5 around 36” wide. We watched this buck over and over and I’d love to see what he ended up scoring. I also post this in the Colorado And Shed sections as well! Hope everyone is staying safe out there!

Those of you who are saying he is not as wide as I suggested know more about deer, and have harvest more, so I trust your opinions. Thanks for the feedback!

Good on you for taking the input of other hunters! Many get offended by being questioned on something like that here. Says a lot about you.

I too was thinking you're a bit wide on your estimate but didn't want to offend.

I wouldnt be shocked to find out he broke 30 inches but if I was pressed would guess a bit under that too.

Great buck for sure.

Bill

He is a big buck but agree that he won't be 36" wide. I hope you find out what happened to him. If nobody killed him, I think you have a good chance of finding him again this summer in the same area.

Bill,

Thanks for the message. I agree, far too often people let their pride get in the way and think they are correct. Mule deer are tough - especially in velvet if you don’t spend a lot of time watching velvet and seeing what the end result was. The few that have posted know their mule deer bucks (people like Marley) and have a showroom to prove it! I just hope one day I can see this deer in person!

Stay safe out there guys!

Buckhorn,

I was going to see if folks thought they were similar in width and see if there were any takers willing to guess on width.

Thanks again for your help on that hunt!!!

If you had a picture of you’re Buck going away with his ears pinned back i’m sure he would look wider than the Buck the OP is asking about.
They are both really nice Bucks!
It wouldn’t be fair for me to guess the spread or the score of your Buck since I already know what it is.
It would be interesting to hear what other guys think your Bucks outside spread is.
Do you mind posting the laying down pic of him again? After the pic loads press the insert full-size image button before you press post.
Please and Thank You

That’s why I’m calling him your buck! You pretty much did everything but pull the trigger.
I know you did a lot of preseason homework for your buddy also.

I can't take credit for shooting him. It's my buddy's buck. I simply spotted him and took some picts/video through the process.

I love that pic.
I am sure that’s the buck I saw the year before.
The reason I’m calling him your buck is because you pretty much did everything but pull the trigger. I know you also did a lot of preseason homework for you buddy.
Thanks for reposting the pic in the larger format. It makes it easier for me to look at on my phone.

Buckhorn,

After the hunt I reached out to an outfitter to see if they had trail cam photos of the buck and they sent me these. Pretty cool to see him before shot him.

When we first saw the buck (10 minutes into the hunt on opening day) we thought he was 28-29 inches wide and my buddy wasn't interested in shooting him and I agreed. However, we decided to get closer to get a better look and realized he was maybe right at 30 inches. My buddy made a great shot when the buck was bedded and during the entire process in the field we still thought he was 29 to 30 inches wide. It wasn't until we got all the way back to camp and measured him when we released he was 32 1/4 inches wide. I green scored him at camp and came up with 207 gross and 205 net. I'm not an expert when it comes to scoring, but that should be close. The craziest part is that my buddy drew the 13b Strip tag without max points and then went unguided and killed this incredible buck. All of this success is owed 100% to Buckhorn for providing some incredible information!!
