I am looking for info on Unit 130. My group has been putting in for 102, but I would like to draw in my lifetime. We have 3 points. What type of terrain, hunting pressure, amount of game, etc? Thanks, Todd

Todd--
I really enjoyed the 15" triple-dip sugar cones at the Farson Mercantile, that's why I hunted there, but I've been better served Deer opportunity of merit(called "bigguns') in, say, 164 Gen., 105 Lim., or 42 Gen. even, for real high but not too wide. Then there's the Powder River ranchers north of I-90--got disposable income? You can have one of those bloody beasts.
130 was a almost a good joke for what could be offered on a see-it-believe-it basis, but we had fun as intended and ate hammered straps during camp chef time. The basic four-pt. is hanging above the computer as I type.

it depends the weather really effects this area if you get early snow this area will produce as good of deer as 141/162 but if you dont get snow you could be screwed this does get pressured early durring the general season but if you give it some time and wait it out it has the potential to produce good 180 to 200 class deer. i have never been fortunate enough to get this tag but i have gone out for years and took pictures of the deer during the time that this area is open and could have easily killed numerous 4 points. Good luck drawing.

I drew 130 a few years ago. Didn't know anything about it. I applied simply because it was "limited" and somewhat difficult to draw. You know, tag demand was greater than supply so it must be good! It was good, but not great. Classic case of a migration hunt with the dates set to early. The locals said they wanted the tag because it's an "easy deer". I didn't see near the quality of bucks I see in the Grey's. You will see lots of bands of does with 1 - 2 yo bucks.

Something to think about...Wyoming has 50 plus "commissioner licenses" available each year. So for 5k - 10k a fella can buy a tag and use it in the big game(elk, deer, antelope)season of his choice. You don't need to wait to draw the tag if you've
got the $$$. So if there was a limited entry hunt in Wyoming that consistently produced a handful of 180 - 200 inch deer...well what do you think would happen? The outfitters would have "trophy hunts" set up in that unit with a successful track record. After all there is a pipeline to get the necessary tag. People pay that kind of money for CWMU deer tags in Utah and landowner tags in CO so why not in Wyoming? I am aware of a few commissioner tags being put to use on migration deer hunts around Cody and Thermopolis. But for the most part the commissioner license holders use them in limited elk units. That tells us something.

Tells me that Wyoming deer are not in that great of shape right now.Massntrash said the unit has the POTENTIAL to produce 180-200 type deer, not consistently produce them.He is absolutely correct.I drew the tag either the 1st or 2nd year they had it,and my friend and I both killed good bucks. His on the 2nd to last day, mine on the last. They were both killed on the border of the unit while migrating. We had no migration weather that year, but the migration was in it's early stages due to just instinct,I guess.I would love to see what could possibly show up with weather! That hunt is definitely a migration hunt for the most part. The unit does hold some high country, though, and we all know who lives up there.I think the reason people don't use the comm tags for this hunt is because it is so weather dependent, and you have to declare the unit with a comm tag. However, with a gov tag you only have to declare species, and can hunt anywhere it's open for that species,so I for one would not overlook 130 with a gov tag in my pocket!

t-bone ,doubt that you draw as a party of more than 2. Is'nt there only 25 tags?(10% to nonresidents)
