I think 54 is an extremely tough bow hunt....even with a guide. And then throw in the imminent grizzly bear issues. The elk rut on the private land/down low from what I hear, and they are extremely quiet in terms of bugling due to the bears and wolves. And getting close to private land boundaries is always a long hike with the current public land access....and you'll be walking in the dark, with grizzlies! I spoke with a guy that drew the 54 bow tag this year, and he came prepared with horses...he said it was extremely challenging and he's a successful elk guide in NV. I think the unit 56 guides include Wapati Ridge, Boulder Basin, Shoshone lodge...all top notch from what I hear, but then again I don't know if they do much bow guiding in sept....they're hard core late season rifle guides and very busy getting ready for their Oct 1 sheep hunts. Best to give them a call.
