Any suggestions

My buddy wants to get his dad an Elk hunt this fall for his 81st Birthday. His dad lives in Wisconsin and has never hunted in any other state. He was thinking of trying to get a hunt where his dad could hunt Elk and he could go along and hunt deer. He was thinking Colorado. His dad is in average shape, but as many over 80, he does have health issues. He is not looking for any monsters, would be happy if his dad could get a "nice" average elk, and he could take a decent buck.

So anyone have any suggestions?

NM and CO have tags for elk where land is more hills than mountain ridges. You may have to deal with elevation.

Overlapping a deer hunt and elk hunt can be a challenge if you want to both hunt at the same time. First, you have to find tags for each that overlap dates where you will be out West. Second, the deer may be miles from the elk so you might only see each other at night.

I suggest you both hunt elk or you help out but do not get a tag. You get to share the experience that way and you can focus on elk habitat. The west has some big country where having an extra set of eyes is helpful while glassing.
