I’m sad to say, and this is coming from a hunter who lives and breathes that mountain, but good luck... you’re going to need it.
I’ve been out there several times the last couple of months and didn’t see a dang thing. That unit used to be great, but G&F slaughtered it.

Elk herd is low. When we went, all tanks were dried up. Your key will likely be finding water... but even then that’s asking a lot.
Either way, enjoy being out there!

Start on top of Taylor and go East to the far north earthen side of the Laguna reservation. I’ve always found a few bulls in that steep country.

Saw 1 lone bull/tracks hiking today (~10k') and fresh droppings....there is half a hope, more if there is/were cows around

there were some guys elk hunting on the back side using drones.

Drones are illegal for hunting in NM. NM Game Commission took it even farther than the rules for airplane/airborne scouting. Not allowed.

I guess they don’t aid in hunting if you can’t find any elk with them either?? Haha. Wonder if it helped??
