Alright guys i'm new to this posting so i figured i would get everyone started for 2011 the season, Throw your pictures of your antler hunting dog on here and let me see them. I have a 1 year old yellow who found his first shed yesterday and would like to post it also but need some hints on the best way. and fatrooster i'm excpecting some from your pup as well. 2011 photos only though as were starting out in the new year

muledeernuts, I don't have any 2011 pictures of Daisy yet. I went out once and did some glassing and didn't see any deer so I took a walk and found a nice white set and my friend found a nice browny deadhead. I did have Daisy with me and she found 1 antler but I saw the set up in the distance with my bino's before she found them so that means our current 2011 score is fatrooster 2 and Daisy 1. I still ended up pushing some deer around so I'm gonna wait at least another month before I start shed hunting. When I get some pictures I will be glad to post them. A lot of people around Elko with shed dogs are still waiting before they go out to give the deer every oppurtunity possible to have a unharrassed winter. But some of the guys in the Southern US are already hunting so I'm looking forward to seeing some good shed dog pictures. Here is a picture of the set I found.

I had already taken Daisy home and met some friends at a resturant and never got her picture with any anlers. I never did get a picture of my friends deadhead. fatrooster.

FatRooster here is the pic of the shed Goose found. i usually don't look for mule deer horns but i'm hooked now. When he found it i knew it was nice but didn't realize how big till i scored it last night, it ended up being 81 inches. i would go back for the other side but we just got over a foot of snow in town yesterday and would have another 2200 feet to climb to where i found it. Alot of our mule deer are still packing but we were just trying to locate some bucks when i found it. only saw 6 deer the whole day, which is good because we didn't push any of them. Either way i have some hiking to do to find that right. (i'll have to figure out the photo thing a little better for a clearer photo) Find the horn Goose!

Great antler and great picture. Goose is a good lookin' dog and I really like the picture of him holding the antler while sitting in the snow. Did you teach him to keep holding on to the antler until it is in your hand? fatrooster.

Here's one of my favorites of Buck. He's slowin' down at 11 years old, but still hunts hard for birds and even harder for bones. Captured this picture with the zoom when he was 60-70 yards away and bringing me his third bone of the morning!

FatRooster i've been working on it but hes still a rookie. only 13 months old, we just finished the bird season and he did great there retrieved 46 birds and only lost 1 due to the river speed. I make him hand me everything that way he doesn't say drop a antler half way and expect that dog treat and then forget about the antler. i just taught him hold until i'm ready to take the bird or antler from him. The breeder i got him from is Shade Tree Kennels in LA Center Washington. Their name is Steve and Julie Moore and i was lucky enough to be able to buy Goose from them. Any time i ever have a question on training Goose Steve or Julie is only a call away which is great since it is my first Lab. (by the way yellow is the best hahaha) Find the horn Goose!

Huntemup that is a great picture, i'm glad to hear he loves the birds too, labs can do so much for their owners and life long friends to please you. I'm not so sure you could be in a happier state of mind when your dog (in my case best friend) is bringing you back an antler for one reason only, he knows it pleases you. Find the horn Goose!

Dakota it sure is good to hear you don't roam all over the country side chasing deer all over. Every good whitetail spot here in MT has for the most part been paved with boot tracks. it a competitive thing now but there nothing we can do besides take care of the animals when we are out there. nice horns and nice pup also! i like the yellow! Find the horn Goose!

Just for fun guys this is Goose when he was 9 weeks old. Unfortunately i found the horn and not him but hes been sniffing his fair share since then. As you can tell by the look on his face hes not so sure whats going on! Find the horn Goose!

You nailed it right on the head, Muledeernuts! He's the reason I bird hunt, and to see him in action out there looking for sheds is indescribable. He goes everywhere with me, and it breaks my heart to see him slowing down from age. We all know our days with our dogs are numbered, but it doesn't make it any easier...especially with a dog/best friend who lives to please.

You just know Mercury loves what he's doing...just look at that grin on his face in the last picture! Good stuff!

Right on Goose!
Once they get that fresh buckle smell there's no turning back! Yeehaw!
Handsome dog you got there MDN!

I bought a AKC yellow lab because of his personallity and his color. He has turned out to be a great dog. He was born spt. 16th last year so he was to young to waterfowl hunt him so i decided to get into shed hunting with him. this is my second year and we go all the time. this last weekend actually he brought me a shed that was burried in a bush. his nicest one yet. I decided to post a pic or two of him growing up so far. thanks...

For all you guys with dogs out there i got a quick question. This weekend i was looking for some muley sheds and kept running into a problem of prickly pears. I had to keep pulling them out of Gooses feet. I have the litte boots for his feet but i'm not sure if those are comfortable for a dog when hes putting on 10 miles or so on them? do any of you have problems with cactus or prickly pear? and what do you do about it? Find the horn Goose!

I don't have that problem where I live but I would think that the dog would eventually learn to avoid the cactus and prickly pear. fatrooster.

i kept telling him that if he wouldn't step on them i wouldn't have to pull them out of his feet. he must have a mental disorder! he was tough though, would keep running until he just couldn't take it anymore. must have hurt bad Find the horn Goose!

Fatrooster is right. There is a lot of little cactus plants where I live, and my dog used to occasionally get cactus quills stuck in his foot, but I have noticed lately how he avoids them. He never gets them anymore. I am sure your dog will figure it out.
