Where is the best place to stay? I have never
been there. I will need to stay in a motel. Don't mind if it is off the beaten path a little. I am gonna draw on Friday.

I'd stay in fernley before I'd stay in lovelock. I spent a day in lovelock once............Never again.

I never stayed in Fernley or Lovelock, but if Winnemucca is better than both of them, I'd turn in my tag!

I hunted there last year stayed in lovelock at the sturgeons casino. good rooms, clean & the closest to hunting area but it is still 1hour out. we got our goats but it was a hunt from hell!!!! but if you want more info call me at 5102894630 my name is bob.

The casino / motel in Lovelock is pretty good...I have stayed there. It is NOT some "five star" kind of place...just the basics but it is clean and the people are friendly.

From there, it's just a short drive down the road to the turn to get to highway 399 which will take you to some good hunting in the Sage Valley and Seven Troughs mountain range. Unit 41 has the most purely public land but in both 41 and 42, most land, even private land, is open to use...

If you want a short preview, here is a blog post I made about the area...click the pics to see them in larger format...you may be encouraged by the herd of antelope http://www.afreshpath.com/?p=119

Duckman I won't have to worry about it this year. I can't not believe with 11 nr points I did not draw. But I do get go to unit 61 late for deer, my son was drawn so thats a good deal.

That's funny. I've worked out of winnemucca and fernley, Those are the only times I've stayed in a town while in nevada. Everytime I'm out there hunting I camp out of my truck, way too much driving going back and forth to town everyday.

Stayed at the casino in Lovelock and enjoyed very much. Nothing fancy, perfect for the hunter.

Ditto that. Drew same tag last year and stayed at Sturgeons during my 3 pre-scout trips as well as during the hunt. It was nice to come back to town to a shower, clean room and a hot meal. It can get quite hot and dusty out there in antelope country! Sturgeons was very economical too. Just make sure you tell them at the counter that you want the advertised "bilboard price" for the room. Seems as if the bilboard on I-80 shows a room price lower than what they quote on the internet or over the phone. If you plan to hunt the Eugenes or some of the northern areas, you might want to go to Winnemucca. It's a much shorter run than up from Lovelock. Fernley, in my opinion, is way too south...too far of a run.

Shoot me a PM if you have any specific questions about the hunt. I'm sitting out for 5 years now...and probably wont draw for another 10 after that....so I dont mind sharing my knowledge with another hunter.
