Antelope Unit 25 Oct 1-3

I am from Boise but can't draw an Antelope Tag to save my life in Idaho, so I put in and drew unit 25 in Wyoming and proceeded to book a hunt with SNS outfitters. So far every thing seems good. They are saying a 70-75" goat is normal for this area.

Does anyone have anything to share about this unit, trophy quality, terrain, ect? Anything good bad or indifferent about SNS antelope hunts?

I've scouted a bit in that unit - I hunt just across the road from there to the north. Anyway, you should do fine, 70-75 should be pretty easy in most years.

Pretty sure they had a good wet spring so horn growth should be good this year. From what I see in that area, the bucks tend to have really good mass but not many tall ones, not saying you wouldn't get lucky and find one that's 16"+ but a lot of bucks are in the 14" range but will have a ton of mass which makes them tough to judge IMHO.


They (SNS) has access to some really good ground to hunt. Do you which end of the unit you will be on?? I'm most familiar with the north end of it.

As far as terrain, its pretty typical antelope country, some pretty open and some broken stuff that lets you stalk in pretty close if needed. Since you will be there for the opener the antelope should still be more settled down versus later on. I will also be in my unit on the 1st for the opener - just keep your fingers crossed it doesn't rain or snow - that can make it tough to get around.

Here is a pretty typical buck for that area, got this one last year opening day, I think he scores right about 75" or so gross, not huge but a pretty buck.

I wouldn't settle for anything under 80 the first day and anything under 78 until 8he last day. Tell your guide your expectations and make him stick to it. There's antelope everywhere in 25 and Sy usually has pretty good places leased.

Sy runs a great camp with experienced guides that know the country. You should have a fun hunt.

Telling you that 70-75 is "normal" means they run an antelope factory on his leases and they shoot them out every year. In area 25, two year old bucks can be lower 70's.

For once I agree with Triple, with the quality and genetics available there, I would hold out for better than 75 for sure. Unless you contracted for an economy hunt?

I really appreciate all the responses. I am pretty excited for this hunt.

Not sure what part of the unit we are hunting, but I am assuming the southern part as the camp I am staying at is out past Douglas and appears to be at least 30-45minutes drive to get to the bottom half boundary of the unit. I did notice the southern part of this unit is very close to Carbon County which has the most B&C entries. Some food for thought, maybe some big goats will have worked there way up to unit 25..lol

I am going in with the expectations of 75-80" buck and no smaller...Being not much of a judge, may be hard for me to turn down a 75-76" goat early. Going to have to really trust the guide I guess. I have talked to the Camp Manager - Jason Hill - He really seems like a good dude over the phone.

Going to be a bit different as I have never hunted with a guide or relied on anyone but myself/hunting buddy. I would consider myself somewhat accomplished in the backcountry DIY deer, elk, and bear hunting here in Idaho so having someone "guide" me will be interesting.
