Antelope Island Shed Hunt Event:

Looks like Registration is full!

Weather looks to be nice those days!

Are they changing how they handle it from the past few years?

I don't know Who's been Running the Drones non-f'n-stop for the last few weeks?

But I did hear several sets have been GPS'ed & it's gonna be a SlugFest for some of the Bone!

The Dew I had for Breakfast wasn't Bad so I had one more for Dessert!:D

i have hunted it many years, and it seems to be getting worse every year! this whole 50 dollar deal, register, tags being given! Your odds are not nearly as good as they used to be so to me it is definately a waste of money.

50 dollars is a drop in the hat in the overall picture. You get to spend the day roaming all over a beautiful island. Not too shabby if you ask me.

So are you going this year shedhead?

That, and the shed poachers stealing the resources guys paid money to find. A buddy and I glassed up a big 4 point tuesday, nearly a mile off the road, annd today it was gone. Happens every year. But I still go, and have a blast. I have yet to roll up on my 1st island shed, but I'll keep trying.

Yelum

Theres logic, and theres women. They don't go together.

Bummer, Yelum!

Sounds like a typical western wyoming shed hunt!
Glass 'em up one day, poached the next...all long before the first!

Just so you know if you don't already grassing for sheds before the first can still land you a hefty ticket. I think it's bull I'm not hurting anything sitting in my truck glassing for sheds but it is the law and I have herd of a few people getting ticketed for it. Just a heads up. Can't wait till the first.

I have a really hard time believing that. How do they know if they are looking for sheds? They could be glassing up Lizards, Antelope, deer, coyotes, Indian Artifacts, snakes, or anything else you can think of. There is no way someone could give me a ticket for looking through a pair of binoculars, there is no way that would hold up in court. NO WAY!

An how is looking through binos hurting the deer? I just don't get it. Can you post up the link to this new rule?

I totally agree with you but I have herd of it happening. Here is the link to the law http://wgfd.wyo.gov/web2011/Departments/Hunting/pdfs/Regulations_Ch61.pdf
It comes in under thier definition of " collect" it states to search for and apparently some wardens have taken that as literally as to say that looking through binos is searching. I don't see how that this can "harass or disturb big game animals on their winter range" but none the less I have heard of people being ticketed for it.

It is a stupid law brought on by the actions of a few stupid people.Attempting to locate is a violation of that stupid law.Seems like it would be hard to prove, though.

Wow, that is really taking it to the extreme.

Which is bs cause the shed antler course has a question that the answer is, to watch is not considered gathering antlers

whiteshadow you do realize they are talking about two different states dont you?

Different states can have different rules.

Yeah I'm familiar with the law.
I don't glass for sheds but I will watch/photograph groups of animals (from the road) just to keep tabs on them.
This year my wife is going to be at a buisness conference the last week of April through the first week of May so I'll be sitting at home with the kid this year. It's alright, I always get frustrated on the first because I find around a thousand to one boot tracks (poachers) over sheds.

I do the same thing just keep track of the groups of animals ( I have accidentally found sheds by glassing animals) but its kinda risky I guess. I have had the same issue on the first but last year we did manage to find about a hundred in the first two days. So it wasn't bad

I'm not scared to say "I glass for sheds". If I go up to Wyoming and see 50 shed bucks, you bet I'm going to look at the ground to see if an antler is laying there. That doesn't mean I'll go pick it up, it just means I'll know where it is for the opener. I don't see why that is a problem.
