I have not seen anything posted or shared on any forums of the deer out there this year. If there has been I have missed it. If I am not mistaken, that hunt should start this week??? Anyways, does anyone have picks of the potential out there this year? And rumors of who's the guides?

I’ve heard some stuff, but nothing concrete.

Sounds like it’s a down year on antler size and I’m sure we’ll get threads and posts about how two bucks per year has shot out the herd and the genetics.

And they’ll leave ~7,000 coyotes out there to chase the 35 deer left on the Island unabated…

(Numbers used for illustrative purposes only)

Spent the morning covering the entire east side of the island. I only found three deer, one dinky 2-point. 6 coyotes. 12 antelope. 2 porcupines. And 3 pickup trucks coming down off "The Sentry" behind the closed gate. Watched two Asians in a California rental approach some bison, but didn't get myself a viral video, darn!

All in all, the deer just don't like the east side of the island anymore. Too many people most of the year. At least I got to drive all the way to the south end of the island today. I'll likely go out this or next Saturday again.

The reality with AI is if they don't start doing something about the coyotes, there won't be any deer left on that island.

We can just bicker about two bucks a year getting shot by hunters and keep ignoring what is completely taking out the deer herd there, or the state can do something about it.

I'd love to hear what the fawn survival on Antelope Island is. The coyotes are doing a number out there. Not many deer left at all, from what I understand.

About 5-6 years ago I was driving out there with my family and we saw 4 on the causeway alone. And we saw more on the island itself than every other kind of animal combined besides bison.

I can only imagine it’s worse today than it was then.

This is a real issue. The genetics out there are fine. Shooting two bucks a year is no big deal. There are more bucks alive on the island than does. If yotes are killing all the fawns, the deer can’t be replaced, and from the rumblings I’m hearing, that is what they are seeing.

I think people would be surprised how few deer there are out there anymore. And the culprit isn’t hard to pin point.

If I remember correctly I heard they captured 100 or so deer off the island and moved them to different parts of the state and I suspect they were mostly doe’s. If that’s true? Do you remember how long ago they did that?

So.

Your saying it's not 40 er genetics that's the issue?

It was pretty rare to go out and not see 4-5 dogs an evening. And they ain't little town dogs, they are well fed.

Hey Nilly?

You Sure It Ain't A Genetics Issue?

LMMFAO!:D

Looks like one buck has been killed out there.
