Antelope Help/Question????

Looking for a unit with ample public land for antelope that's undersubscribed=0 points. My girlfriend and her son are excited about a big game hunt. Thinking a Sept antelope hunt would spark that fire more than a high country elk hunt or deer hunt where they'd have to deal with cold weather and less numbers of game. Realize that any unit meeting this criteria isn't gonna have much trophy potential. Even willing to apply in a unit predominately private with a recommendation for a ranch with a reasonable kill fee.

Got max points for elk and deer and never thought I'd hunt antelope in Wyoming. Things change. Might even have a new hunting partner. Wow, wouldn't that be a change after fighting about hunting with the ex for 30 years???????

Hunter,

I never had the desire either to hunt Antelope till last year when I just bought the point and then this year after talking with Eelgrass and Longun I applied. Man, what a blast and looking forward to going again with my "new rifle" that I will be picking up next week.
Good luck, and if you need any help let me know.

I agree, antelope hunting is great. As far as drawing a license for public land, that can be tough.
I myself have shot enough antelope that I don't need anymore horns ,so I hunt does, fun hunt and easy to draw.Just look for areas with large tracks of BLM land.

Kilowatt,

You got my curiosity. Tell us more about your new gun.

I agree with all of you about antelope hunting being great fun. No getting up at 4:00am, hiking in the dark and hunting 'til dark etc. etc. It is a much more relaxed hunt IMHO.

With the new draw odds deal on here it should be easy to get a few picks and then look to see how much public land the area holds. I'll throw in a vote for Thunder Basin. I have went there off and on since the 80's. Some years it is way crowded other years it is not too bad. It's always fun. Get some double palm leather gloves and hard knee pads and go for it. Oh and some tweezers for the cactus you didn't see.

I hunt only public land and have found if you can wait untill more to the end of the season you will have less other hunters to compete with.I have always found plenty of antelope to hunt and it is a little cooler ,easier to keep the meat cool.

Cali!!

For that criterion, I'd be looking around the Areas between Casper and Riverton, and maybe a little North and South of that line, also, to start with. 0-pt. app's. aren't impossible in some of 'em.

Don't go lettin' that little asterisk fool you, now....

>it. Oh and some tweezers
>for the cactus you didn't
>see.

Tell me about it! Put my hand down on a cactus in the Thunderbasin. Blew that stalk as I think they heard me yelp for miles!
