LAST EDITED ON Dec-21-07 AT 05:59AM (MST)[p]Anyone hunt public land in unit 26? Not much BLM land with access but there is a little.
Also planning a prarrie dog shoot in the same area.
Looks like this unit always has leftover licenses.

There are quite a few units in that area that have leftover licenses. With the public lands so small and being mixed in with deeded land lots of folks don't try for them. I don't know any dog towns right there. Sure seem like there are lots of them down toward Wheatland and I know of a ranch up in 17 that has them. As far as goats, there are lots around the area but as far as clueing you in on land... I hunt the other side of the highway there. Get the map of the Grasslands and do some homework.

I ordered a National Grasslands map and I am more interested in the public land prarrie dogs than the goats.I got some info off the internet search and will compare it to the map.I have hunted antelope further west but with the point system it looks like it is harder to draw those units with no points.I am not interested in the Pref Points game.

You might get the phone number the The Bill Store and see if they can give you any info. I know when I was in the Forest HQ the folks in there said they knew of no dogtowns in the Grasslands areas. I've not seen any over in the unit I hunt on the other side of the road. Doesn't mean they are not there just that they may be very well hidden from normal travel routes or the areas I walk through. Sorry that is all the help I can give. One last try may be the chamber of commerce in Douglas or the county chamber.

26 had a way of emptying my gas tanks once. It was fun, just too much time riding instead of putting on the stalk for my public-huntin' personal likes.
On the subject of p-dogs in the TBNG, we'll hunt Lope 27 every other year or so(was there this past Oct.), and the towns I've seen--just a few--have all been in the Cheyenne River bottom.
Far as I recall there are big white signs down there also saying "no prairie dog shooting" in that valley.

Most any of the areas that have leftover tags have very limited public access for quality Antelope hunting. That's why there are tags leftover.
