yes extremlyGreat buck. Overall we’re you satisfied with numbers?
It's a good tag if your timing is right. Weather pushes those elk around. Archery is the way to go imo.yep that 40 bull tag will be a bit tougher. thanks
Elks you are exactly correct, but i think numbers are even lower than 30% off. I know for fact the deer numbers are way less.. i have lived and hunted this unit for 40 years and it disgusts me how poorly they manage this unit.. we did have a couple bad winters but they never implement any changes until its years too late...The unit is down over all. No doubt about it. Having been in that unit for years both the lopes and the deer have taken a huge hit between drought and winters etc.
It is a pretty scary situation right now. My cameras show nearly all deer left look underweight heading into this fall, the range especially for the local animals is in terrible shape, again the worse it has been in the 20 years I have trounced around.
that being said, they dismally rounded up a bunch of feral invasive horses. So things might get better for a bit. However the elk numbers appear to be going up and elk are expanding into new areas.
That being said the lope hunt is fun. Wide open tons of public lands and even when 30% plus below normal there are still a lot of lopes. On my hunt this year 8 was finding/glassing 40-50 buck as a day as well. But a few years back that number was easily 110-120. Last year on the hunt I was averaging around 60-80.
hopefully we get the right weather and the area recovers.
We focus on trophy elk, mule deer, antelope and moose hunts and take B&C bucks most years.
