This statue currently stands
outside the Iraqi palace,

Now hom e to the 4th Infantry division.

It will
eventually be shipped home

And put
in the memorial museum in Fort Hood , TX

The
statue was created by

an Iraqi artist named Kalat,

who for years was forced by

Saddam Hussein to make the many
hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad ..

Kalat was so
grateful for the Americans liberation of his country;

He melted 3
of the heads of the fallen Saddam and made the statue as a memorial to the
American soldiers
and their fallen warriors.

Kalat
worked on this memorial night and day for several
months.

To the
left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving the soldier comfort as he
mourns the loss of his comrade in arms.

Do you know
why we don't hear about this in the news?

Because it
is heart warming

and praise worthy.

The media avoids it because it does
not have the shock effect.

But we can
do something about it.

We can pass
this along to as many people as we can in honor of all our brave military
who are making a difference.

I WILL PASS THIS ON TO ALL THAT I HAVE CONNECTIONS TO. GREAT POST! I'M SURPRISED YOU HAVE'NT GOT ANY HITS YET!

THANKS

Great post. It should be on the major news networks. Of course it would take up the space needed for the gay marriages coming in CA.

It's a great sculpture and i wish the story about it was accurate.
The sculptor wasn't forced to make Saddam statues but did work on some.
He was paid by the Army to make it, gratitude of money vice being freed.

Great post? As usual Manny, you might want to check Snopes prior to spreading this stuff. ;-) http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/kalat.asp

Seems the photo is real, but the story has been embeleshed quite a bit. The story is only partially true. If you check the real story, it seems the guy hardly did this out of gratitude. The sculpter made the statues of Saddam because he needed $$ for his family. And he didn't make '100s of them'..... He made this one for the exact same reason; FOR THE MONEY! , NOT because he was grateful to the Americans.

Oh, and the media didn't avoid the story. It was printed in the Wall Street Journal and picked-up by news organizations all over the US four years ago.

Cool statue for sure. I just like to see the truth printed about things (whether from the 'liberal' or 'conservative' media...).
