An important topic

I should hope that the actions of Utah do not set a presidence or example for other states to follow. I love to shed hunt. Been doing it for years. I get more excited for it than I do for deer or elk season. I do love to eat elk so I am not anti hunting. I do however see a huge problem with winter range harrasment. The law can never be very well or equally enforced and I would not like to think that my taxes (hunting liscense fees are a form of taxation) are for something I am opposed to. I would not like to think that my rights as a private land owner would be affected by this law. I was unclear as to how this law was being applied to private lands in Utah (give me some info). The only way is to close areas to motorized vehicles or limit access by making people stay on the roads during winter. Buy the game officers a four wheeler. Harrasment takes place legally every year during rifle and bow season. We dog the animals forever. This impacts winter survival as well. Mr. Boone and Mr. Crockette created a problem when they gave us a score. This leads to people trying to prove their manhood by shooting large animals or picking up sheds. This creates a race and hence harrasment. The point is this, IT IS JUST AN ANTLER! If more people took this approach we would have less problems. Tell the tards to buy good optics, watch from a distance and go get the horn when the animal leaves by free choice. Greed will ruin it for ALL OF US.
I think this is an important topic and would like to see you guys in Utah bring the law down. I do have more thoughts but this is enough for now.

Good thoughts, well said. There are problems with wildlife harassment. I agree with the long hunting seasons being a big problem. In some areas here in Wyoming they can chase the elk over 4 months! Yea there is a lot of area for them to move around in and they do adapt but harrassed they are. When I see how the huge herds of elk interact durring the rut in Yellowstone where they are not hunted it makes me sad that the elk have to be so nocturnal elsewhere. We all know that more laws to limit our freedoms will not help and cannot be inforced. Here the Game and Fish have closed some critical winter range to all human presence. It is good for the animals but of course the meat heads sneek in to pick up the best of the sheds.I have been picking up sheds for 25 years and will be out tomorrow looking for more, found 2 elk sheds last Saturday. No animals were harmed buy my activities! I hope that we will always be able to enjoy OUR OUTDOORS freely.

By no means does hunting game during hunting season compare with "harrassment" in their winter range, and I don't think that chasing a "trophy" animal constitutes greed in all cases. I do however think that there are those that insist on practicing unethical behavior when it comes to hunting and that is why we have the laws that we do. It's unfortunate that these laws have to be passed because I really do believe that 95% of sportsman are ethical hunters and use good judgement. It's the other %5 that screw it up for the rest of us.

It's always an adventure!!!

You are right on with the the 5% deal. I hope my message would make that 4%. I am some what of a hypocrite because they are not just antlers to me either. I do try to keep the "its just an antler" perspective however. I don't sell many of my antlers so its not abvout the money but simply the adventure. How does the Idaho shed season work? I can't wait until it starts to rain antlers!!
