America ur new military...enjoy

Sounds like they were able to raise a lot of money for a good cause! Good for them.

Looks like they can stop a bullet as good as any other soldier. I don't have a problem with them serving, and neither does the great majority of the personell they serve with. Since I work directly with U.S. Army soldiers - I get to talk with them about these issues frequently. As long as they can do their jobs, they don't care who their fellow soldiers chose to love.

It's not a big deal anymore. Not at all. It just isn't.

So what's yo(ur) point here Manny?

Just another form of religious bigotry? Or did you truly appreciate the performance?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-19-14 AT 09:06AM (MST)[p]OK elkun, - please explain what's "low" about it.

I think it is pretty obvious what my personal beliefs on the subject are. Click on the link in my signature and you can see where my religious beliefs surrounding same-gender attraction come from.

Sin is sin - PERIOD.

In my book any sexual relations outside of marriage is sin. I'm not condoning the sexual behavior of these gay and lesbian service members any more than I am condoning the behavior of all the heterosexual men and women in our armed forces who fornicate, commit adultery and indulge regularly in pornography on a regular basis. They are all serious transgressions in God's eyes and in mine.

BUT, what I am saying is that I don't feel I can call myself a Christian (and yes Manny - Mormons ARE Christians - in every sense of the word) if I don't regard each individual as my brother or sister - as a child of God, and judge them for the content of their character and not for the color of their skin or sexual orientation.

If that's the "low" you are talking about, well then, yes - I guess I am that "low" then. I just don't believe I should judge someone more or less harshly because they sin differently than I do.

And, in a secular sense, in the world we live in, the stigma over homosexuality is just not the same as it used to be. I know for a fact it is not that big of a deal in the military. I work daily with U.S. Army soldiers here at Ft. Hood and as I said earlier, we have discussed this many times. To them, serving and working with gays and lesbians is not a big issue. They are professionals in every sense of the word and take pride in their training that teaches them to treat each other with respect, dignity, and professionalism and to put the work of defending our nation and our constitution above any personal beliefs they may hold. Which means that all that matters to them about their fellow soldiers is that they are competent enough and willing to do their jobs. They know that bullets don't discriminate against race, creed, color, or sexual orientation and so they don't either

So, yes, attitudes in our society towards homosexuality have changed drastically over the last 20 years. And maybe yes, this does represent an eroding of our values as a society somewhat - we darn sure tolerate a lot more things now that we used to! Our morality has changed! There are a lot of things that are evil that are painted as good and good things that are painted as evil, but when I ask Manny what he means to communicate by posting this I am not talking about that.

What I am saying is that maybe this new tolerance also represents something a little greater. Maybe it represents our ability as a society to reject our racist and bigoted past and to finally learn how, as Christ admonishes us, to "love (our) neighbors as ourselves" and "to judge not that (we) be not judged" and that "whatsoever (we) should that men do to (us), (we should) do even so to them".

But, that's just me. And if it makes me a "sorry azz bastard" for believing and acting in such a "low" way, so be it.

That's all I am going to say on the matter in public. I am not going to engage in any kind of religious or civil debate, especially not here in this forum.

But I will stand up for what I believe.

If anybody wants to talk with me individually about anything I have said, please send me a PM and I would be happy to carry on a dialogue with you about it, I just won't do it in public.

roy. read your own post, are you trying to make me believe' or your self?. you are from Utah you know whats right. To live and let live is one thing. to stand up for them is wrong. NV BIGHORN. with that name ill bet you know some of those boys'

In my experience, those who are so hateful and go out of their way to condemn and hate other people, are hiding something themselves...... so what are you hiding?

As Christians we are to pray for those who are going down the wrong road. It does not matter what their sin is, we are to pray for them, not hate them. That said it is written that when we observe a brother doing wrong we are to speak to him and attempt to get him back on the straight and narrow. If the one on one approach fails we are to attempt to correct the conduct by utilizing a group of church members to bring in the lost sheep. If that fails we as a group are to shun the offender until he repents.
