I've been a big fan of this site for a long time, most impressed with the positive feedback that members provide to each other. Finally decided to join.
In speaking with a couple ranchers enrolled in block management in the SE corner of the state, sounds like mule deer are really struggling but whitetail numbers are a little more stable. I am planning on exploring some national forest and BLM country in that area in the next couple weeks with a deer tag in my pocket. I've spent some time wandering the hills across the border in South Dakota and Wyoming, but never in Montana. Any advice/tip/suggestions ? Thanks in advance for any guidance !

I've only hunted antelope there, but I've never seen many whitetail in that area. Maybe if you got in a good river bottom?

BE PREPARED FOR ALOT OF ANGRY LAND OWNERS THAT THINK THEY OWN ALL THE BLM AND STATE GROUND. I REFUSE TO BE CHASED OFF PUBLIC GROUND BY A JERK OFF. ALL OF THE BLOCK MANAGEMENT STUFF SEEMS TO BE HUNTED HARD, BUT YOU CAN FIND AN OCCASSIONAL GOOD DEER. GOOD LUCK AND BRING A GOOD MAP AND GPS.
