So about 15 other people and I hit the hills in Nevada last weekend. As soon as we got there we were finding sheds. We found close to 100 sheds in two days between all of us. But we where driving down the road and my buddy colton was like holy crap there is a shed. And what do you know a small 4 point elk shed was laying on the hill side about 30 yards of the road. He went and got it and got back and we decided that we wanted to hit this little spot. We started walking and Mckenzie and I were closest together. He stopped and turned around so i started walking in his direction and in this little draw i found the broken 6. It was my first elk shed ever so i was freaking out. I made about a 200 yard radius looking for the other side but finally gave up. I started walking back to the truck and about a quarter mile from the shed i found the other side laying there, only about 200 yards from the road! They are my first elk sheds ever and my first set! Enjoy the pics :)

Congrats! If you weren't hooked already, you probably will be for life! In 2005, I found my first elk antlers, and they were a set, too. I was walking a fenceline through an old burn, and I discovered a bull had leaped a fence, made a hard landing and knocked both sides loose. Not huge, but enough to get me to become obsessed with horn huntin'. Good luck on your future hunts, may there be lots more to come for you...antler hunting, ALWAYS an adventure!;-)

Yeah lucky as hell Zack! I damn near walked that way from where we parked our truck and missed out on potentially snagging those horns. Guess all the chalky deer I found will have to do lol. Really is too bad he was so broken up, but it's pretty sweet first elk set still for sure.

haha timmy thats what happens when you listen to me and turn around when i say to ;) and if you wouldn't choose the highest mountain possible to start at than walk through the flats back to camp you wouldn't find all those chalky horns. haha lol

Lol right... I'd still pick the highest mountain to tackle on a year like this. I know there are still some huge ass horns laying up there still. I went really high on that last half day we were there and found several fresh rubs ands sets of tracks, so I know there's bone still waiting to be found. Did manage to pick up another chalky 3 point deer set and chalky 5 point raghoorn set that morning though.
