1911, since you seem to be an expert on Marijuna I have a couple serious questions.

What's more harmful, alcohol or MJ?

Has anyone ever smoked just pot then crashed their car into a minivan killing an entire family?

Has anyone ever been diagnosed with emphysema, lung cancer, or have to talk out of a hole in their throat by smoking ONLY MJ?

BTW, I didn't say MJ is harmless. I was making a point that potheads are more harmless than drunk drivers.

I've got to agree with shotgun1 on this one.
The biggest problem on the roads has always been booze. No, I don't and won't smoke weed but the fact is WAY more folks are killed by drunks than a laid-back pot-head.

Drinking and driving.......doping and driving seem the same to me. I am a Jack daniels addict and if Coors Lite was a river and I was a duck I would swim to the bottom and not come up. I do not drive and drink and I fear the acceptance of marjiuana. Why do dopeheads always seem to be such idiots when interviewed?
 
Someone needs to do a little research on the research done on marijuana and it's effects on humans with chronic use. You might not think it is harmless after all.

I have been to several fatal motor vehicle crashes that were just MJ only. In fact most of the DUII alcohol have MJ on board too. Driving under the influence of controlled substances is on the rise and just as deadly. Don't kid yourself, CO has had a 200 percent increase in injury MJ accidents since passing the "victimless drug".

Just hope it's not your family coming down the highway on your harmless MJ.

Just out of curiosity, do you have any links, newspaper articles, police reports or something to back up your claims of 200% increase in MJ injury accidents and several fatal crashes caused by MJ.
How many fatal crashes have you been to where neither alcohol or MJ were a factor?
 
There was a long term research by a southern University that showed chronic use of marijuana did damage to the brain cells over a period of time. What made this damage more apparent was the major increase of the THC content of the hybrid marijuana we see today compared to 20-30 years ago. They don't call it "wacky weed" for nothing.

What is known about Cannabis usage ? Lowers the I.Q. which might recover some after quitting. It can bring on mental illness in some people. Causes throat irritation but can prevent Lung Cancer.
Many users lack motivation. Impairs motor skills during highs.

I have been involved in this issue for quite awhile. If you want your stats try google. They are all there for you to find. Attached is a link to an article I co-authored many years ago. Impaired driving is still a big social issue and driving under the influence of MJ is nothing new. MJ is the most common other drug found in DUII arrests other than alcohol.

Booze was my favorite drug of choice but there were times back then in the right situations that i might, "hit that btch" if it were passed to me. Other times, i might of had a small stash on hand but i was never a everyday user, i liked my whisky. I agree with all the stated symptoms described above of those who frequently abuse the drug, it's not good for your smarts!

That said, i know plenty of smart people who use it regularly and if it has diminished their intelligence, productivity, or motivation, it sure doesn't show. I also have a Cousin that was in a really bad car accident, cut way back on his prescribed heavy duty Codeine meds because he uses cannabis for his chronic pain now instead unless it gets really bad.

If i were to start partying again, i'd choose Pot over Booze without a second thought. I say that from having been there and done that, weighing one bunch of negatives against the other.

Out here in Northern Cali, you can not believe all the otherwise good decent people that have Pot plants in their back yards. The local Law Enforcement guys turn their heads to them and that's not easy with the plants sticking up way over the fence tops. It seems to be more popular every year and i just don't see recreational or the medical use of pot going away.

Morning Bess! Stupid? I don't recall doing anything particularly stupid while i was baked but i did plenty of things i might shouldn't have done just from enjoying myself and company sitting on a barstool for the evening.

One time, me and a City Fireman buddy got caught fishing in a park district lake around midnight for big channel catfish by a sneaky Park Ranger. We had done the clandestine little trip together once a year for years and there was always a bag between us that we made fair use of. We were laughing our guts out and trying to be quiet at the same time when that Ranger popped out and asked us what the heck we thought we were doing, We both about crapped our pants as it was pitch dark and once he came out of hiding, well it spoiled our party, i'll say that.

He let us go with a warning not to fish after dark. I had been fishing there since long before it was a Park Lake and that particular trip was the last time we ever went. I don't know if that would be called stupid or just living.

Rich, your link doesn't work. I did some googleing. Seeing how Marijuna can stay in a persons system for months I don't see how any of those so called studies can be accurate. For instance, a person who last smoked dope 10 days ago and got into a fatal accident today would still test positive.

Bottom line is, alcohol is 1000 times worse on the health care system, the human body, the nations highways, the penal system, the work place, etc etc etc.

I think we see what we do as o.k I drink and I do not see it as a problem ......some people smoke dope and do not see it as a problem. Is our world going down hill.......maybe. About 50 yrs ago my drill seargent used to say "smoke em if you've got em. I say the same I guess....keep them out of my camp!

I envy the couple that can share part of a bottle of Wine together thru dinner and call it good enough. I feel like i can't go there. First thing i'll be back down at the bar every day, slapping backs with the boys, spending every available dollar i get my hands on, and trying to drag any ol female type back home for some fun. I was pretty good at it though i just knew that i had to finally quit or i'd one day soon, not wake up.

One thing for sure, quitting everything in that way these past 17 years or so, has been a Positive i'm grateful i was able to do!!

I only tried MJ two, maybe three times. The last time was early 80's. I was over at friends and he offered me a hit. One hit and I was buzzing. I left right after that and drove home, telling myself to act cool so my wife wouldn't notice. I got home and sat down on the couch and started watching the TV program she was watching. I thought I was doing great. Then my wife came over, looked in my eyes and said "why don't you just go to bed?" Good idea babe.

The Ranger was not happy. He was professional. It was/is legal to fish catfish at night but against the rules to be in the Park after dark. We were busted, no excuse possible, we were escorted out the gate and warned to not try it again, We didn't.

There are probably 100 people reading this that can tell you more or better describe how a person feels or what goes on when high than i can but for me, pot never brought on anger or violence. Mostly the opposite, listen to the music, enjoy the people around, and have fun.

There is some out there that believe Pot is a gateway drug, that if you smoke it, you are pretty much sure to go on to bigger and more dangerous drugs. That was not true for me and most others i know. Sure it can happen but I never even tried any of the other stuff, just don't care to.

Bess, i hope you are done with my section of the Book you are writing. That fishing expedition was over 30 years ago, 1982. The catfish in that gravel pit were long as my leg, some 30+ pounders came outa there. We had already caught a few that night but nothing bigger than about 10 pounds. Before you ask, we got to keep our fish.

One of the funniest things I recall from high school was a class called "Social Problems" that was partially about the evils of drugs and alcohol. The teacher was one of the biggest stoners around.

Making it legal to use any kind of drug doesn't make it good.

Common sense tells you that nicotine, alcohol, marijuana, or anything like it, isn't good for you. To argue that point is a waste of time.

Just like legalizing homosexual marriages. Doesn't make it right. It's all the same, man made laws, meant to leverage for political gain.

I grew up in a house where alcohol and marijuana were used on a daily basis. Not by me, but my parents, I can assure you, the use of these drugs has tremendous effects on your life.
 
Marijuana was a entry level drug for my friend who I smoked pot with. He died of a heroine over dose a couple years later. We started out getting high on steelhead fishing. I guess his addictive personality got the best of him.:)
