Advice on ID Moose Hunt

I drew an Idaho moose tag and want to take one with my bow. I haven't looked at enough Shiras moose to feel super confident about field scoring.

I plan on dedicating myself to this hunt and want to make the most of it.

Any suggestions of videos, books that are geared toward Shiras would be helpfull.

If you want a bull that will score well one of the first things to look for is brow tines that fork. Forked brows will increase the credit you get for palm length. Another thing to look at is how wide the palms are. Spread is a measurement lots of people talk about with moose, most big bulls will be upwards of 40 inches wide with lots of people wanting a bull 45+. Congrats on the draw, what unit?

Double brows is a must. BEWARE!!! all moose look big at 15 yards

This is a monster, at least in my book. Notice he doesn't have much for brows, though legal two. When he rounded the corner and I was concentrating on looking for brows, it was hard not to notice the spread and the amount of palm there was. Shiras have longer poits or more points than palm, compared to their northern couins. Soooooo thats another thing to keep in mind. Don't let long points fool you, there are no points for long tines. This one had a bit of a weak side compared to his big side, so he "only" scored 163 boone.

I think I'd be happy with that one!

I have been cruising the photo pages and trying to see as many racks with scores as I can for reference.

Tag came in the mail. I'm gettin pretty amped up for this.

GUNRODBOW - Congrats on the tag! I don't know how I missed this post earlier but I am in the same boat you are in. I got drawn for a moose tag in Northern Idaho (unit 4) and my main goal is to take one with my bow as well. Any and all info is greatly appreciated.

BONEADDICT - Nice pic! I've seen that one on here before when you posted it last year, but I can definitely handle looking at it again. What a beauty!!! Gets my blood pumpin' just looking at it.

CRYAN - You sent a PM to gunrodbow. If it was any information pertaining to hunting moose with a bow specifically I'd love to see what your PM was about if possible.

This is what I posted on the "sheep, moose....." forum. If anybody has any information on unit 4 I'd like to talk to you as well. Like it says in my post over there, I've got a decent start on the season already and have a few areas to scout, but I just want to make sure I am not missing any areas that are worth looking at that I may not know about already.
