A different draw question

I have never seen this discussed before. If I apply and draw a license, how do I know if I drew the license in the general draw (either regular or special) or I drew after being dropped down to the random draw? Thanks.

By the points required to draw. if your tag took 10 points to draw and you drew with 5 then you drew random.

If it takes 10 points and you drew with 10 points you'll never know if that point pool was used up.

Its fairly easy, I would think. Know how many PP's you have, then look in the draw odds report released by the Dept. If you did not have enough points to be awarded a PP tag in the top group, then it was probably (definitely) a random tag.

If you were in the top and there were more applicants than tags in the top group, I don't know that there is any way of knowing for sure.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate your comments. I understand the drawing odds and points aspect. I am trying to figure out if one can distinguish between getting lucky in the general drawing or was one really lucky in the random drawing. I'm looking at antelope options. Thanks again and good luck drawing/hunting/killing what you are hunting for.

I'm not really sure what you're asking. Are you trying to make sure that you get a tag in the initial Regular Draw with the points you have? Are you trying to put in for a hard to draw unit that you know you won't draw with your points, but might in the Random Draw you would then go in, or are you hoping to draw a second choice in that scenario? If you can give us a little more information, I'm sure I/we can help you with what you want to know.

If you draw a tag with less than the required number of points based on that year's draw stats, then you drew a random tag. If you are one of many vying for a certain percentage of tags left in the pp pool then it's conceivable you may not know if you drew in the pp pool or random. Say the area took 5pp minimum, but only 20% with that many tags drew in the pp pool, then you'd still have a chance in the random. In that case I don't think you'd know. But you'd be lucky to have a tag.

Maybe this is what you're not getting, no random tags are issued until the point draw is finished. then everyone who didn't draw goes through the random draw.
