LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-11 AT 10:20PM (MST)[p]Had a big tom run across the road on the way to work one day this winter. I jumped out and ran after him, baying like a hound. Almost treed him too. He hesitated and tried to climb a big fir but changed his mind and bailed. The next morning I took the day off of work and brought the hound out. The tom had made a move that night and I was in the process of freshin' up the track when we kicked up 6 wolves from their beds. Was a good thing I had the hound still on lead or else they probably would have killed him. With wolf tracks all over the place, it was hopeless trying to piece together the lion's track. I could hear a bunch of ravens, so the shed hunter in me decided that I could run the lion another day and I needed to find what was dead. Here is what I found. The wolves stole the bull from the lion that night.
Working in the area most of the winter, I was hoping the tom would make a move again. Seemed everytime I cut his track, the wolves were right there too. I'm not too keen on getting my dog killed, so I never turned out. Last weekend I went out sheddin' in the area and was able to find this muley deadhead not too far from where the bull was. Found him just under a band of cliffs that I had seen the cougar tracks come off of a couple of times.
Here are a couple pics of the wolves that were covering the area pretty darn good. I didn't take these pics, another local did. I wish they would have stayed still like that for me. Packed my rifle to work all winter but just couldn't get a crack at them.
