9 points

LAST EDITED ON Nov-29-19 AT 06:16PM (MST)[p]How many points does G take to draw
seems like 9 points is a lot of points to burn in a General Unit that usually take 5-6 points and got HAMMERED by a rough winters I'm not expert but there might be better places to burn 9 points in Wyoming than G.

Unfortunately you can't catch max and the popular units so your options are limited. Between 6 and max is no mans land.

Agree with lost! Get in shape and hunt the west side of the state.
There are great bucks on the east side, but it will take a lot less points than you have to go after them.

Only do G if you can put in the time to scout a find a big one to hunt. And, be mentally prepared for opening day. That's one of the biggest things I speak about with my consulting clients. There will be a mess of people up there early in the hunt and many people get very discouraged when there are many other hunters right on top of them.
And obviously, be in great shape.

I like Western Wyoming hunting and scouting, but I also love the hard work it is to scout and hunt it. It's not for everyone.

There could be better places in the state, but I'm not too knowledgeable on the rest of the state.

This one might still be alive. I'm hoping he's real big this year.

Mule,

What size buck are you hoping to get? If size dont matter and you're just looking to hunt then a limited quota unit like unit 34 or 89 might work. You will see several bucks a day on an easy terrain type hunt however, dont expect very big bucks.

I'll have my older father with me and my sons ages 10-7 not needing to kill a monster just have a good tome and see lots of bucks with a chance at a good buck

G is probably not the unit to take young boys and an older father.

It is better for die hard hunters/hikers or horse hunters.

Best of luck.

My son-in-law and his 2019 buck from one of the units mentioned above.

Jm77,

Now you are just teasing him with a picture of that buck. That is a gorgeous buck that is the exception and not what the majority of hunters take on those units let alone even see on those units.

By posting that picture it will now take 12 points to draw those units leaving the OP out of the game with his 9 points.

Ok, I'll agree with that, but we aren't like the majority of hunters! The last tag we had in this same area, before this year, was my wife who took this buck. See any resemblance?

I agree with others then, go somewhere a bit easier and have a good time.

I agree either of the two units above is a great choice for a younger hunter and an older hunter especially if you have any kind of glassing skills and a general understanding of mule deer behavior

Well there may be some sleeper tags available for a November hunt in other parts of the state if the CWD working group gets their way.

Jeff,

Tell your son-in-law that his bullet landed about 1/8" higher than I would have shot that buck. LOL

Perfect shot, peeeerfect deer!

Always my pleasure to spend a little time with you.

Of course.
Great archery kill.

It's a perfect shot and an awesome buck for sure!
